City of Waterloo Insurance Committee met Nov. 21.
Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:
Present: Russ Thomas, Steve Notheisen, Stan Darter, Shawn Kennedy, Jason Goff, Scott Paisley, Steve Hoffman, Andre Phillips, Eric File (CBIZ). Committee member absent- Hopkins
Petitions by Citizens on Non-Agenda Items: None
Health Insurance Update- Eric File of CBIZ discussed the January rate increase of 6.7%. This is higher than anticipated, but Eric showed that our claims history for 2016 was above 90%, causing the increase.
After discussion, it recommended that we accept the increase that helps us get to a 1/1 start date going forward.
Eric updated the committee and employees on a new HRA administrator, that will help streamline the claims process. Hopefully we will start with the new company in January. The cost to the city will increase from $3,000 to $5,000 per year. This will require council approval as well.
Motion to adjourn by Clyde H., 2nd by Steve N. Motion passed 4-0.
