Pinckneyville Community High School District 101 Board of Education met Nov. 27.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The Board of Education of Pinckneyville Community High School District #101, Perry County, Illinois, met in a regular session on the 27th of November, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at the Pinckneyville Community High School in that district. The following officers and members of the Board were present: Greg Thompson, President; Jennifer Robb, Brian Kellerman, and Greg Bigham, and Jeff Suchomski. Keith Hagene, Superintendent, Penny Corn, recording secretary, and Dustin Foutch, Principal, were also present.

The Pledge of Allegiance was conducted and PCHS Mission Statement was read by President Greg Thompson.

It was moved by Jeff Suchomski and seconded by Brian Kellerman to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll call: Greg Thompson, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; Jeff Suchomski, yes; and Brian Kellerman, yes. All ayes. Motion carried.

Visitors present: Steve Williamson, Steve Adams, Marilyn Smith, Hannah Epplin, Kelly Epplin, and Kent Epplin.

Visitors were welcomed and invited to address the Board. Steve Williamson asked how our budget/funding looked compared to the surrounding Pinckneyville schools. Mr. Hagene answered that we are all in very similar situations financially.

Dr. Foutch presented Hannah Epplin as the Murphy-Wall November Student of the Month. He praised Hannah for leading multiple clubs that participate in community service, as well as remaining at the top of her class throughout high school. She has received many honorable awards for these accomplishments, and is a member of the PCHS Poms.

There was no AD report this month.

Mr. Hagene explained the Evidence Based Funding Model.

Dr. Foutch reported positively on our improved graduation rate, and compared our increased percentage to the state averages.

Steve Adams, from Bernardi Securities Inc., gave a brief presentation regarding our possible bond restructuring, or advanced refunding.

It was moved by Brian Kellerman and seconded by Greg Bigham to instruct Bernardi Securities Inc. to offer the District’s 2017 refunding bonds to the public market and to close said bond issue prior to December 31, 2017. Roll call: Roll call: Greg Thompson, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; Jeff Suchomski, yes; and Brian Kellerman, yes. All ayes. Motion carried.

Mr. Hagene discussed the process to move forward with interviewing architects for the bus shed project.

Mr. Hagene explained the levy process and expressed his concerns and the logic behind his recommendations.

It was moved by Jennifer Robb and seconded by Brian Kellerman to approve the tax levy resolution as follows: Be it resolved by the Board of Education of Pinckneyville Community High School District No. 101 that the following taxes by and the same are hereby levied against all the taxable property in said district as the same are hereby levied against all the taxable property in said district as the same is equalized and assessed by the Department of Revenue for the year 2017; Education fund $1,042,000; Operations and Maintenance $283,000; Transportation $135,950; Working Cash $56,650; Municipal Retirement $65,000; Social Security $85,000; Fire Prevention and Safety $65,650; Tort Immunity $390,000; Lease Levy $56,650; and, Special Education, $22,600. Total operating levy of $2,193,700. Roll call: Roll call: Greg Thompson, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; Jeff Suchomski, yes; and Brian Kellerman, yes. All ayes. Motion carried.

There were no FOIA requests this month.

There were three out of state or overnight trips requested by Mr. Will Weatherford, Coach Natasha Plumlee, and Mrs. Rita Willms.

It was moved by Jeff Suchomski and seconded by Brian Kellrman to approve the overnight and out of state trips as presented. Voice vote. All ayes. Motion carried.

Mr. Hagene conducted a first reading of policy updates.

It was moved by Brian Kellerman and seconded by Greg Bigham to approve Raygan Yates as Girls Basketball volunteer coach for the 2017-2018 school year. Voice vote. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Brian Kellerman and seconded by Greg Bigham to adjourn the meeting. Voice vote. All ayes. Motion carried.
