Incumbent Rep. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) held off Dr. Paul Jacobs in the 115th District Tuesday night in a spirited battle that saw the challenger in the final days of the campaign pressing his opponent to debate him face to face.
With 93.39 percent of all precincts reporting, Bryant had 4,141 votes for 56.05 percent to Jacobs 3,247 for 43.95 percent.
With just days remaining before voters went to the polls, Jacobs penned a letter to Bryant where he said, “as candidates, we should do more than just send out campaign mailers, air commercials and post on social media. We should be communicating directly with voters in an open and public forum.”

Jacobs later claimed his words went unanswered. Throughout the campaign, Jacobs cited the contrasting style and policies of the two candidates. But in the end, stressed that he hoped they could have a meeting of the minds about certain issues critical to the people of the district.
“We may not agree on every issue, but hopefully we can agree on the importance of this race and the importance of giving voters an opportunity to hear directly from us on what we think the future of Illinois should be,” he wrote in his letter.
