Sen. Paul Schimpf (R-Waterloo) is taking care of business.
At the April 18 Senate floor debate, Schmipf advocated for four bills that passed unanimously regarding grant funding, county fairs and veterans.
First up was SB2969, which removes the requirement for the Board of Higher Education to annually submit a budgetary reveiw for grants under the Graduation Incentive Grant Program.

“We haven’t funded this grant program in a number of years,” Schimpf said.
Next, SB3072 -- an initiative of the Department of Agriculture that restructures the Illinois State Fair Advisory Board from 20 members to 15 members -- and SB3191 -- an initiative of the Department of Veterans' Affairs Act that allows the department to make expenditures from the member benefit funds for the recognition and appreciation programs for volunteers -- also both passed without question.
Lastly, SB3193, also an initiative of Veterans' Affairs, provides that a nonveteran spouse is given the same priority as a veteran upon the admission to a veterans' home, Schimpf said.
