City of Chester Parks and Recreation Board met Feb. 21.
Here is the minutes provided by the Board:
Present: Collette, Chris, Jessica, Sarah, Patti. Absent: Steve Jany, Brandy Maes and Melinda Pierson.
Collette Powley report: Smith’s landing needs attention. Patti comments that there is a maintenance list for that already. Benches at Gazebo need to be refinished. Patti says she will ask City workers to check the benches for safety issues, but other than safety issues, money might be an issue. Patti will check on it.
Cohen Complex report: Jessica recently went to Breezy Hill, and it was locked. Jessica would like to know who has a key and why it is locked when it is public property. Collette says that the Breezy Hill members pay for everything there, but Patti says that the City pays for grass seed and the toilet there.
Cole Park report: Sarah distributed a handout regarding the potential city garden in Cole Park. Sarah discussed the goals of a city garden, potential locations in Cole Park, potential funding sources, and a to-do list of things that need to be completed prior to opening a city garden. Patti suggested that Sarah come up with a specific plan to present to the city council.
Recreation report: Patti reports that the Boy Scouts are no longer collecting bottle caps; previously the Scouts had been collecting bottle caps for the benches at the James Brockmeyer Memorial Park. People are still bringing in lots of bottle caps. Patti suggests that we get a project going with local children to clean the bottle caps and put them to use creating things elsewhere in town.
Patti is putting together a committee of five people to help run the summer baseball and softball leagues.
The summer concerts in Cole Park are scheduled and the bands are booked.
Unfinished business: Patti brought up that she has dog park information that she is going to give to Jessica.
