David Friess has become a fixture around the 116th House District, where he is set to face off against incumbent Rep. Jerry Costello (D-Smithton) in November’s general election.
He is slated to be among those attending the Red Bud Firemen’s picnic scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday.
“Come join us and hit the food stand after the parade,” Friess recently posted on Facebook.

A former Air Force C-142 crew chief operator during Operation Desert Storm, Friess has also made pledging to oust longtime House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) a staple of his campaign.
Friess "is looking to serve his last tour of duty – in Springfield – and the new battlefield is Illinois," his campaign website states. "It’s career politicians versus us. Unfortunately, the political class has been winning the battles – driving up our taxes, driving out jobs, racking up our debt, and underfunding our rural schools. It’s time we had someone stand up to hear our concerns, to be our voice, and to fight for us. David is that conservative fighter."
The 116th District runs from Cahokia to Chester, and from the Mississippi River to St. Libory, Coulterville and DuQuoin to the east.
