Duquoin FD responds to 41 fires in 2017

Duquoin Fire Department responded to 85 calls in 2017 - 10.4 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Duquoin included 41 fires - 16 structure fires, three vehicle fires and 22 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $398,500 in fire loss - or about $9,720 per fire.

The department also received 41 false calls, including two malicious calls and 39 other false calls.

The calls resulted in four civilian non-fire injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Duquoin Firefighters Pension Fund, which has seven active employees and 10 retired or inactive employees, was $142,159 in debt as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $4,181 for every fire in 2016.
