Meeting240

City of Chester Parks & Recreation Committee met March 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

Present: Collette Powley, Steve Jany, Chris Koeneman, Brandy Maes, Jessica Bland, Sarah Roth Absent: Patti Carter and Melinda Pierson.

Motion by Sarah to dispense with the reading of the previous meetings minutes and to approve them as distributed via email. Seconded by Jessica. Motion carries.

Marketing: Creating a separate Facebook page for Chester Parks & Recreation was discussed. All posts could be shared by Patti’s page so everyone who is “friends” with her page will still see them. This might be less confusing for people in town who are less familiar with Patti’s position with the City.

Cole Park report: Sarah distributed a handout regarding the potential city garden in Cole Park. Sarah explained that the handout is the same as last time except that this handout has estimated costs.

Dog park: Jessica researched the issue. Grass is not recommended for dog parks for various reasons. Cost will be an issue. Jessica isn’t sure the dog park should be a priority right now.

Cohen Complex report: no report

Downtown parks report: Collette reported that she went by Harnagel Park recently and there were some kids playing there.

Recreation report: no report

Community survey: discussion ensued regarding what our priorities as a Board should be. It was agreed that we need to survey the community about our needs as a community so we can have an idea about what other citizens see as our needs and what our priorities should be. Chris volunteered to do a draft of a survey.

Plastic for our Parks: Jessica distributed the handout she is using to advertise the idea. She has coordinated with various places around town for drop off points for the plastic.

Breezy Hill: Steve explained that the Breezy Hill members provide the mowing for Breezy Hill as well as the insurance for it. There are 16 members of Breezy Hill, approximately 10 of whom are from Chester, who have paid for 2018 memberships and pay $65/year. Jessica suggested that we look at removing Breezy Hill as a city park. Sarah and Brandy agreed.
