David Friess doesn’t want voters to forget about how he sees Rep. Jerry Costello (D-Smithton) joined at the hip with longtime House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago).

“Tomorrow is the anniversary of Springfield politicians overriding the governor’s veto of Madigan's 32 percent income tax hike,” he recently posted to Facebook. “To commemorate the occasion, I thought I'd share this picture displaying my favorite part of our campaign T-shirts. A reminder: Jerry Costello has voted every chance he's had to make Madigan Speaker of the House.”

In another post, Friess, who is challenging Costello in the 116th House District in November’s general election, expressed optimism that voters are as fed up with Madigan as he seems to be.

“Helped my mechanic change the pinion gear in my ‘87 blazer yesterday,” he wrote. “He agrees Madigan must go. More than 30K people fled Illinois last year and the main reason they left was to avoid oppressive taxes. Our taxes will never be lowered as long as Madigan is speaker.”

A former Air Force C-142 crew chief operator during Operation Desert Storm, Friess has made ousting Madigan a central theme of his campaign.

Following his latter post, he urged followers, “repost this if you agree with 'Fire Madigan'.”

The 116th District runs from Cahokia to Chester, and from the Mississippi River to St. Libory, Coulterville and DuQuoin to the east.
