City of Waterloo - Gas Committee met July 2. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

The meeting was called to order by Alderman Notheisen at 7:02pm. In attendance were committee members Aldermen Darter, Thomas, Hopkins and Heller. Also in attendance from the City were Shawn Kennedy, Tim Birk, Aldermen Buettner, Row and Trantham and Mayor Smith.


Minutes from the April 2nd were previously approved at the April Utility Meeting.

Chairman Notheisen distributed the planned purchase of Natural Gas Futures and led a discussion about said purchase. A motion was made by Alderman Thomas and seconded by Alderman Hopkins. The purchase recommendation was approved with a vote of 4-1, with Alderman Darter voting no.

We reviewed the bids for the purchase of 4” steel pipe for the high pressure gas line as well as the bid for the contractor building the high pressure gas line. The committee recommended both with a vote of 5-0.

City Attorney Dan Hayes and I gave modest reports about the MRT rate increase proposal to FERC. The City has already begun our protest of the proposal. More details will follow as the legal effort at FERC takes shape.

Motion to adjourn was made by Alderman Thomas and seconded by Alderman Hopkins. Motion passed 5-0. Meeting was adjourned at 7:07.
