Republican David Friess, District 116 Republican candidate for the Illinois House of Representatives, recently took to social media to honor those killed on 9/11.
“We will never forget the day our nation was shaken by the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania,” he wrote on Facebook. “Today, we honor the thousands of lives lost on this day and we pray for the families still affected every day. On Sept. 11, terrorist [sic] tried to destroy our nation, but in the end, we stood stronger and more united than ever.”
Friess was recently endorsed by former state Sen. David Luechtefeld (R-Okawville), who represented District 58 from 1995 to 2017 and was deputy minority leader.
Rep. Jerry Costello II (D-Red Bud)
“Southern Illinois needs a conservative fighter who will cut taxes, balance the budget and stand up to Mike Madigan,” Luechtefeld said in a video posted on Friess’ website. “David Friess is that conservative fighter. I give him my full support.”
Friess is running against incumbent state Rep. Jerry Costello II (D-Red Bud) in November's general election.
“I’m a veteran, a taxpayer and a father, fighting for a better future in Illinois for my children, and yours,” Friess said in the video. “I’ll vote to fire Madigan and I’ll always put Southern Illinois first.”
The 116th District covers the cities of Chester, Columbia, Du Quoin, Pinckneyville, Red Bud, Sparta and Waterloo.
