Touting his “proud” NRA membership and support for Second Amendment rights, Illinois House candidate David Friess claims his National Rifle Association (NRA) rating was an error.
Friess submitted his candidate survey for the primary and received a perfect score, the Republican candidate said in a recent Facebook post. Because he is not an incumbent, he did not receive a second survey for the general election and, subsequently, did not receive a score from the organization.
“Unfortunately, the NRA mistakenly did not send out a general election survey (same survey as primary) to ANY non-incumbent state legislative candidates,” Friess wrote. “The NRA currently has my general election survey and is grading it as I type this.”
Rep. Jerry Costello II (D-Red Bud)
Many candidates running against incumbents also did not receive the second survey and received erroneous "unknown" grades as well, Friess said.
Friess is running against Rep. Jerry Costello II (D-Red Bud) for the 116th District state House seat in the November election.
“I am a proud member and supporter of the NRA and I won’t apologize for it,” Friess wrote on Facebook. “It’s too bad Jerry (Costello), knowing all this, has decided to lie about my position on the Second Amendment. He has to lie to distract from his Madigan loyalty.”
Friess posted a copy of his original NRA survey for the primary and said he gave the same responses for both surveys. He also posted the full survey on Medium.com.
The 116th District includes Monroe, Perry, Randolph and St. Clair counties.
