The latest digital ad from David Friess, a state representative candidate in District 116, discusses the apparent need to “drain the swamp” in Springfield

After an opening with Friess introducing himself, he pledges to “drain the Springfield swamp” and eliminate the tax increases backed by his opponent, Rep. Jerry Costello II (D-Red Bud), and House Speaker Michael Madigan

In the second half of the ad, posted Oct. 22 on Facebook, a voice-over states: “But Jerry Costello voted three times for Mike Madigan, backed higher income taxes, even gun control. He rubber-stamped the Madigan/Pritzker agenda, blocking Trump’s policies in Illinois.”

The ad then states: Costello is “funded by anti-Trump D.C. lobbyists,” before calling on voters to “drain the Springfield swamp and liberal Jerry Costello.”

On his Facebook page, Friess identifies himself as a conservative who served in Operation Desert Storm as an Air Force flight engineer. On his website, he pledges to tighten spending, push term limits, create more jobs and cut taxes.

Friess and Costello are on the ballot Nov. 6 to represent state House District 116, comprising the communities of Chester, Columbia, Du Quoin, Pinckneyville, Red Bud, Sparta and Waterloo.
