City of Waterloo - Gas Committee met October 1.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

The meeting was called to order by Alderman Notheisen at 7:01 pm. In attendance were committee members Aldermen Darter, Thomas, Hopkins and Heller. Also, in attendance from the City were Shawn Kennedy, Tim Birk, Aldermen Buettner, Row and Trantham, and Mayor Smith.

Minutes from the July 2nd meeting were previously approved at the July Utility Meeting.

Chairman Notheisen distributed the planned purchase of Natural Gas Futures and led a discussion about said purchase. A motion was made by Alderman Hopkins and seconded by Alderman Thomas. The purchase recommendation was approved with a vote of 4-1, with Alderman Darter voting no.

Tim Birk reviewed the installation of the high-pressure gas line that was extended to the northern end of the City. He explained a couple ‘change orders’, one for an additional valve of $1,300 and one for additional pipe at $4,482. We may be able to sell off any excess pipe to our engineering company. Overall, the cost of installing the high-pressure line was well under the amount budgeted.

Tim also updated the committee on the progress of installing automated metering for our gas customers, which had not progressed much, but the electric meters should be completed soon.

Motion to adjourn was made by Alderman Hopkins and seconded by Alderman Heller. Motion passed 5-0. Meeting was adjourned at 7:18.
