SEARBY FUNERAL HOME: Jerry Leonard Lemons

Searby Funeral Home issued the following announcement on.

Jerry Leonard Lemons, 72, of Tamaroa, passed away at 6:36 P.M., Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at his home.

Jerry was a retired farmer. He was of the Protestant faith. Jerry loved and spoiled his grandchildren. Jerry was a proud Army veteran serving his country in the Viet Nam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Campaign Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal and the Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle), while serving in Viet Nam. He was a life member of the Am Vets.

He was born November 30, 1945, in Mt. Vernon, IL, the son of Robert and Grace (Mabus) Lemons.

Jerry married Margarett E. Ray on June 13, 1968 at Sesser, IL, and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margarett, of Tamaroa, son - Arthur Lemons and wife Jennifer of Sesser, daughter - Sarah Mooney and husband Nathan of Pinckneyville, six grandchildren - Gillian Lemons, Cordelia Lemons, Luke Wisely, Shelby Mooney, Bella Mooney and Braeleigh Mooney, two sisters - Connie McBride of Sesser and Judy Scott of Sesser.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister - Brenda Arriaga and brother - Stewart Lemons.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 27, 2018, at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser with Rev. Collin Hirsch officiating.

Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery at Sesser.

Those attending the services are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion and the Army National Guard.

Friends make memorials to the Marion VA Hospital Activity Fund and will be accepted at the funeral.

Searby Funeral Home of Du Quoin is in charge of arrangements.
