Report: Chester spent $9,439 per student in 2017-18

Spending per pupil at Chester Community Unit School District 139 is up 8.3 percent from five years ago, according to a SW Illinois News analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2017-18 report card shows the Randolph County school district spent $8,715 per pupil in 2013-14. It spent $9,439 in 2017-18.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 996 to 992.

Chester's spending in 2017-18 was 29.2 percent lower than the state average of $13,337.
