Pinckneyville Community High School District 101 Board met Jan. 28.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The following officers and members of the Board were present: Greg Thompson, President; Lisa Stanton, Secretary; Brian Kellerman, Jennifer Robb, Kyle Pursell, Greg Bigham, and Jeff Suchomski. Keith Hagene, Superintendent, Tony Wilson, Principal, and Penny Corn, recording secretary, were also present.

The Pledge of Allegiance was conducted and PCHS Mission Statement was read by President Greg Thompson.

It was moved by Kyle Pursell and seconded by Jeff Suchomski to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll call: Lisa Stanton, yes; Greg Thompson, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Kyle Pursell, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; Jeff Suchomski, yes; and Brian Kellerman, yes. All ayes. Motion carried.

Visitors present: Debbie Giacomo, Brigid McCann, Dianne & George McPheeters, Steve Williamson, Bess & Tim Lewis, Evelyn Rushing, Nolan Kellerman, Jan Epplin, Shirley Welsch, Marilyn Smith, Matthew Johansen, Susan Cannon, Kim Lietz, Rita Willms, Beth Shanklin, Adrienne Wilson, Colby Bigham, Caitlin Cushman, Kathy Patterson, Rhonda Hicks, Katie Smith, Heather Wilkin, Hunter Queen, Austin McAllister, Heather Genesio, Lisa Wisniewski, Will Weatherford, William Segelhorst, John Morgan, Cale Diggins, Jeff Egbert, and Stuart Morgenstern.

Visitors were welcomed an invited to address the Board. Steve Williamson congratulated the Panthers. Shirley Welsch asked if the Board has discussed the literature a community member protested last month. Jeff Egbert stated that a member of the public has again contacted the Attorney General concerning the compatibility of one person serving on 2 local school boards. Marilyn Smith read a letter composed by the PCHS faculty concerning their principles on curriculum and their roles as educators.

Mr. Wilson gave the AD report and praised Ms. McCann’s art club for restoring the large Santa which decorates the court house lawn at Christmas. He also expressed his pride in Luke Bigham, and the opportunities he is experiencing with the bow accommodations that were made for him to allow his participation in archery.

A lengthy discussion took place concerning curriculum and the Board’s role in approving/developing. No motions were made.

There was one FOIA request this month.

There were several FFA and one Choices overnight/out of state trips presented.

It was moved by Lisa Stanton and seconded by Kyle Pursell to approve the overnight and out of state trips as presented. Voice vote. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Jennifer Robb and seconded by Kyle Pursell to have all closed session minutes from July 2018 through December 2018 remain closed and confidential. Roll call: Lisa Stanton, yes; Greg Thompson, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Jeff Suchomski, yes; Brian Kellerman, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; and Kyle Pursell, yes. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Brian Kellerman and seconded by Jennifer Robb to authorize the superintendent to begin preparing the tentative budget for fiscal year 2020. Voice vote. All ayes. Motion carried.

Mr. Hagene explained the ISBE financial profile for PCHS, and discussed the County Schools Facility Tax.

It was moved by Brian Kellerman and seconded by Kyle Pursell to authorize the purchase of a 2019 Chevrolet, 29 passenger G5 Micro-Bird school bus from Central States Bus Sales for $58,500. Roll call: Lisa Stanton, yes; Greg Thompson, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Jeff Suchomski, yes; Brian Kellerman, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; and Kyle Pursell, yes. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Lisa Stanton and seconded by Kyle Pursell to enter closed session at 7:29 pm for the purposes of discussing appointment, employment, compensation and performance of personnel, and review of executive session minutes. Roll call: Lisa Stanton, yes; Greg Thompson, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Jeff Suchomski, yes; Brian Kellerman, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; and Kyle Pursell, yes. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Jennifer Robb and seconded by Lisa Stanton to return to open session at 9:19 pm. Voice vote. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Lisa Stanton and seconded by Brian Kellerman to accept the resignation of Mr. Kyle Heckert as math teacher at the conclusion of the 2018-2019 school year. Roll call: Lisa Stanton, yes; Greg Thompson, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Jeff Suchomski, yes; Brian Kellerman, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; and Kyle Pursell, yes. All ayes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Brian Kellerman and seconded by Jennifer Robb to approve Resolution No. 2019-1 authorizing a Notice to Remedy be served to the teacher named therein. Roll call: Lisa Stanton, yes; Greg Thompson, yes; Jennifer Robb, yes; Jeff Suchomski, yes; Brian Kellerman, yes; Greg Bigham, yes; and Kyle Pursell, yes. Motion carried.

It was moved by Kyle Pursell and seconded by Greg Bigham to adjourn the meeting at 9:28 pm. Voice vote. All ayes. Motion carried.
