The price of local government in 2017: City of Columbia

The City of Columbia budget was $15.35 million for its 2017 fiscal year.

That's a decrease of 6.1 percent from 2016, when the city spent $16.36 million.

Columbia has a population of 10,273.

Since 2001, the City of Columbia budget has fallen by eight percent, from $16.68 million. The city population has grown 29.7 percent over the same period, from 7,922.

Salaries accounted for 26.4 percent of city spending in 2017. Columbia property taxpayers paid $4.06 million for 55 full-time employees and 61 part-time employees.

In 2001, the city had 48 full-time employees and 81 part-time employees, and spent $2.87 million.
