Steeleville Community Unit School District 138 Board met Feb. 18.

Others Present: Stephanie Mulholland, Jennifer Haertling, Hannah Sims, Daralynn Gross and Kylie Mueller

1. Jim Mevert moved to approve the following consent agenda items as presented by Superintendent, Stephanie Mulholland. Rick Smith seconded the motion.

A. Approve Board Minutes of Regular Meeting

B. Approve Itemized Bills for Current Month

C. Approve Estimated Payroll

D. Accept the resignation of Julie Pyatt as High School Business Teacher.

E. Approve Eric Raby as a volunteer high school softball coach.

F. Approve Jacob Wente as a volunteer high school baseball coach.

G. Approve the high school softball team to attend an overnight tournament in Murfreesboro, TN, in March.

H. Approve a weekend trip to the Boys’ State Basketball Tournament on March 8-10.

I. Approve the second reading and adoption of new policies.

A Roll Call vote was taken: Mevert – Aye; Smith – Aye; Ernsting – Aye; Frederking – Aye; Mitchell – Aye; Lowry-Rohlfing – Absent; Bockhorn – Aye.

Motion Carried: 6 – Aye, 0 – Nay, 1 – Absent

2. Daralynn Gross and Hannah Sims presented curriculum reports.

3. Action Items

A. Tim Mitchell moved to hire Mary “Bess” Lewis as part-time (3 hour) Spanish teacher at the high school for the 2019-2020 school year. Rick Smith seconded the motion.

A Roll Call vote was taken: Mitchell – Aye; Smith – Aye; Ernsting – Aye; Frederking – Aye; Mevert – Aye; Lowry-Rohlfing – Absent; Bockhorn – Aye.

Motion Carried: 6 – Aye, 0 – Nay, 1 – Absent

B. Dr. Mulholland did not have any recommendations for a part-time grade school custodian.

C. Rick Smith moved to approve the Athletic Co-op with St. Mark’s Lutheran School for the following sports: Girls’ softball, girls’ basketball, girls’ volleyball, girls’ cross country and track. The boys’ baseball team co-op was tabled in order to investigate how many players each school may have and to see if other schools in the area have a junior varsity team. Jim Mevert seconded the motion.

A Roll Call vote was taken: Smith – Aye; Mevert – Aye; Ernsting – Aye; Frederking – Aye; Mitchell – Aye; Lowry-Rohlfing – Absent; Bockhorn – Aye.

Motion Carried: 6 – Aye, 0 – Nay, 1 – Absent

4. Informational Items on the Agenda

A. Budget Summary, Cash Fund Balances, Activity Fund Balances B. Assistant Superintendents’ Report

1. Mrs. Haertling reported that the high school has not started registration because they still need to hire business, science and socials studies teachers.

2. Mrs. Haertling informed the board that parent /teacher conferences went well and they attempted phone calls with parents who did not attend.

3. The High School Girls’ Basketball team lost in the championship round of the Regional Tournament. Jenny Wedemeyer won the 3-point contest and advanced to the Steeleville Sectional. She did not advance out of the Sectionals.

4. The High School Boys’ Basketball will play in the Regional Tournament on Wednesday, February 20th.

5. The first official day of baseball/softball practice will be February 25th.

6. Track practice for indoor meets has started.

7. Mrs. Haertling reported that several old items need to be cleared out of the shed. She is hoping to advertise the following items for sale through a closed bid:

-’79 3600 Ford gas tractor with quick attach loader and turf tires (as is)

- Ford 8’ Blade with 3 pt. hitch (as is)

-Bush Hog Finishing Mower with a 3 pt. hitch (as is)

- X-Mark Zero turn mid-mount mower with 25 HP motor and 60” deck (as is)

8. Mrs. Haertling informed the board that the school is ready to begin the 2nd phase of the $200,000 TIF Agreement with the city. We spent $159,725 on the greenhouse leaving just over $40,000 for the softball renovations. She believes that we can complete the covered seating at the softball field and move and reconstruct the softball field dugouts in block within this budget. The school is working with Wally Wathen on this project.

5. Rick Smith moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:35 p.m. Fred Frederking seconded the motion.

A voice vote was taken: 6 – Aye, 0 – Nay, 1 – Absent
