Steeleville Community Unit School District 138 Board met April 15.

Others Present: Stephanie Mulholland, Jennifer Haertling, Kristin Wedemeyer and Kylie Mueller.

1. Rick Smith moved to approve the following consent agenda items as presented by Superintendent, Stephanie Mulholland. Jim Mevert seconded the motion.

A. Approval of Minutes

1. Regular Meeting – March 18, 2019

B. Approve Itemized Bills for April 2019

C. Approve Estimated Payroll – April 2019

D. Approve Glenn Gerlach to be a volunteer for the baseball and softball teams as needed to transport players to the games.

E. Approve the 1st Reading of Policy Changes

A Roll Call vote was taken: Smith – Aye; Mevert – Aye; Ernsting – Aye; Frederking – Aye; Mitchell – Aye; Lowry-Rohlfing – Aye; Bockhorn – Aye.

3. Kristin Wedemeyer, First Grade teacher, gave a curriculum report.

4. A. Lisa Lowry-Rohlfing moved to approve the employment of Kim Guebert as the High School

Business Teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. Tim Mitchell seconded the motion.

A Roll Call vote was taken: Lowry-Rohlfing – Aye; Mitchell – Aye; Ernsting – Aye; Frederking – Aye; Mevert – Aye; Smith – Aye; Bockhorn – Aye.

Motion Carried: 7 – Aye, 0- Nay, 0 – Abse

B. Fred Frederking moved to approve lighting upgrades throughout the district and to approve the bid from A & I Electrical for $$48,928. Jim Mevert seconded the motion.

A Roll Call vote was taken: Frederking – Aye; Mevert – Aye; Ernsting – Aye; Mitchell – Aye; Lowry-Rohlfing – Aye; Smith – Aye; Bockhorn – Aye.

Motion Carried: 7 – Aye, 0 – Nay, 0 – Absent

C. Rick Smith moved to approve a one year renewal of the Transportation Contract with SWIBCO. Lisa Ernsting seconded the motion.

D. Jim Mevert moved to approve the Baseball Co-op with St. Mark’s for 2019-2020. Tim Mitchell seconded the motion.

5. Informational Items on the Agenda

A. Budget Summary, Cash Fund Balances, Activity Fund Balances B. Assistant Superintendent’s Report

1. Mrs. Haertling reported that they will be working on schedules this week and that all students have registered for next year.

2. The covered seating is coming along at the softball field. They are pouring concrete soon if the weather cooperates. The contractor will start on the dugouts as soon as the Softball Sectional is over.

3. Lisa Ernsting will represent the Board at High School graduation on May 19, 2019.

4. Baccalaureate will be at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville. Everyone is invited to attend.

5. Project graduation will be held from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2019.

6. Mrs. Haertling reported that she is still looking for a Social Studies Teacher.

7. Baseball, softball and track season are currently in progress.

8. Steeleville will host the Steeleville softball/baseball tournament on April 27, 2019.

9. Steeleville High School will be hosting a softball sectional this year.

C. Dr. Mulholland informed the board that once the county has canvassed the votes for the school board election and sends the results to us, we have seven days to seat the new board members. The new school board members will be Alinda Jeffers and Amy Young. Amy Young ran as a write in candidate. The special meeting will take place on Thursday, April 25th at 6:00 p.m.

D. Dr. Mulholland spoke about the next bond sale that will consist of working cash bonds. The bonds will be used for capital improvements but can also be used for non-capital purchases.

E. Dr. Mulholland received a request to negotiate with the teachers’ union. The request indicated that they would like to negotiate before the end of the school year.

6. Lisa Lowry-Rohlfing moved to go into executive session at 7:32 p.m. Rick Smith seconded the motion.

A voice vote was taken: 7- Aye, 0 – Nay, 0 –Absent

Rick Smith moved to return to regular session at 7:49 a.m. Lisa Lowry-Rohlfing seconded the motion.

A voice vote was taken: 7 – Aye, 0 – Nay, 0 – Absent

Lisa Lowry-Rohlfing moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:57 p.m. Rick Smith seconded the motion.
