1. Fred Frederking moved to approve the minutes from April 15, 2019, meeting. Jim Mevert seconded the motion.

2. WHEREAS, the canvas provided by Melanie L. Johnson, Randolph County Clerk, showed the following results according to the way the candidates’ names appeared on the ballot:

THEREFORE, from the results of the election held on April 2, 2019, the Board of Education of Steeleville Community Unit District No. 138, Randolph County, Illinois, herby proclaims and declares Lisa Ernsting, Timothy P. Mitchell, Alinda Jeffers and Amy Young to be duly elected members of the Board of Education of Steeleville Community Unit District No. 138, for a term of four years. Motion made by Jim Mevert, seconded by Fred Frederking to accept the Canvas,
Filing Certificates and Abstract of Votes from Melanie L. Johnson, Randolph County Clerk, as submitted to the voters at the April 2, 2019 consolidated election.

3. Lisa Ernsting moved to appoint Tim Mitchell as President Pro Tem. Jim Mevert seconded the motion.

5. The Oath of Office was administered by the President Pro tem and was recited by all Board Members.
6. President Pro Tem, Tim Mitchell, called for nominations for the office of President of the Board of Education. Member, Lisa Ernsting, nominated Tim Mitchell for President. Having no other nominations, President Pro Tem, Tim Mitchell declared Tim Mitchell elected President by acclamation and directed the Board Secretary to so record in the minutes.
7. President Tim Mitchell called for nominations for Vice President. Member Rick Smith nominated Fred Frederking for Vice President. Have no other nominations, President Tim Mitchell declared Fred Frederking elected Vice President by acclamation and directed the Board Secretary to so record in the minutes.
8. President Tim Mitchell called for nominations for Secretary. Member Fred Frederking nominated Rick Smith for Secretary. Having no other nominations, President Tim Mitchell declared Rick Smith elected Secretary by acclamation and directed the Board Secretary to so record in the minutes.
9. Rick Smith moved to set regular meetings of the Board of Education on the third Monday of each month. Meetings will be held at 7:00 p.m. in Room 8, Steeleville High School, 701 South Sparta St., Steeleville, IL. Lisa Ernsting seconded the motion.

10. The Board recognized departing board members Korey Bockhorn and Lisa Lowry-Rohlfing for their 8 years of service to the Steeleville Board of Education.
11. Jim Mevert moved to approve a work plan for school improvement. The plan is a requirement for the School Improvement 1003a Title I grant that the Grade School has been awarded. Rick Smith, seconded the motion.

12. Rick Smith moved to employ Nicholas Gibson as the High School Social Studies Teacher. Lisa Ernsting, seconded the motion.

13. Alinda Jeffers moved to accept the resignation of John Hicks as Junior High Science Teacher. Jim Mevert seconded the motion.

14. Informational Items:
A. The new board members will need to find a mutually agreeable date to hold a new board member orientation. The orientation should not last more than two hours.
B. Each new board member must complete board member training that covers, minimally, the Open Meetings Act, Board functions, and Board member responsibilities. The Regional Office of Education has a training planned for May 14th. The location and start time had not been determined yet.
