Meeting 06

City of Waterloo - Ordinance Committee met July 23.

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

Meeting Called to Order: 3:00pm

Committee Members Present - Darter- C, Hopkins, Heller, Notheisen, Trantham, Tom Smith

Others Present – Dan Hayes, Jim Nagel, Nate Krebel

Agenda

1. Petitions by Citizens Non-Agenda Items – John Blattner – Smiles R Forever Dental

John Blattner spoke extensively about his exterior “Temporary Signage” and that he felt singled out by The City of Waterloo and held to a higher standard than other Waterloo Businesses.

John pointed out several Businesses that have similar “Temporary Signs” that remain up while Nate Krebel requested John remove his after 24 hours.

Nate Krebel responded that he was not singling out the Dental Clinic and gave multiple examples of himself picking up illegal Temporary signs without contacting the owners. Discussion ensued about Help Wanted Signs and various other “Temporary” signs and how much time Nate can dedicate to this portion of his Job Responsibilities.

John Blattner decided he would convert one of the Temporary Signs to a Permanent Sign and mount it to the building and apply to use the other Temporary Sign for 2 weeks twice per year. John Blattner left the meeting.

2. 40—4-15(O) Temporary Signs

Discussion continued about Signage and touched on Electronic Sign Rules and their misuse (15 seconds without changing) with a general consensus that most of this was done because the employee wasn’t aware of the rules.

3. 6-5-1 Adoption of Residential Code for One and Two Family Dwellings.

Nate Krebel explained The City of Waterloo currently uses the 2006 IRC and would like to adopt the 2012 IRC with some Modifications/Additions/Deletions. Nate will continue to Review the 2012 IRC with the intent to present to Council at a future date.

4. Comments

Steve Notheisen said that he feels we should discuss Split Condominiums with a possible change to R6 or R3. Discussion ensued and Tom Smith asked that it be moved to Planning.

Motion made by Clyde Heller to adjourn, 2nd by Jim Trantham, meeting adjourned at 4:01pm.
