City of Waterloo Downtown Beautification Committee met Sept. 5.

Minutes of Sept. 05, 2019 Mtg.
Attendance: Aldermen Notheisen, Trantham, Darter, Hopkins, Thomas. Also Mayor Smith, Jim Nagel, Nathan Krebel, Shawn Kennedy, Sarah Duetsch, Lisa & Bill Hulett.
Meeting called to order by chairman Hopkins @ 3:01 pm.
1. No petitions on Non-Agenda Items
2. Application from Bill & Lisa Hulett (@736 N. Market ) Information was passed out with a concept drawing. Committee was told by the Huletts that existing building would be demolished;making room for a new 7000 sq. foot building. Discussion by members of the building being vacant for approximately four years. Discussion of case by case review authority by the committee., and it was noted to bring up later for possible changes. Discussion that petitioner's building was not a chain-type, nor a corporate business. Committee was told the building was over 35 years old, close to the central overlay district, but not currently inside the district. Motion by Notheisen, second by Darter., to accept application. Motion passed 4-1, Thomas voting no
3.Application for 101 S. Main ( The Vault ) Krebel noted that the applicant submitted the receipt for the hand painted exterior door signage after the six month deadline. Discussion on completed work. Discussion of partial payment. Motion Notheisen, Second Darter.to reimburse 12 of $600 spent on painting Motion pass 5-0
4.Application for 119 S Main ( Stubborn German ) Discussion of previous murals in town. Members also noted the lettering of this applicant's business contained in the proposed mural. Motion by Notheisen to accept subject to additional approval of sign permit. Second by Darter. Pass 5-0
5.Application for 118 W. Mill (Philomena & Ruth ) Applicant requesting striping (by painting )around existing exterior window. Discussion of sealing the painting(s) with varnish. Motion by Notheisen to accept, second by Darter. Pass 5-0
COMMENTS. Members noted that funding for beautification projects continues to generate fast. Committee may look to spend more., or alternative spending in the future. Krebel will propose some future changes to the application for review.
