Waterloo Community Unit School District 5 Board of Education met Nov. 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The meeting was called to order by President John Caupert. The following members were present: Kim Ahne, Jo Ellen (Jodi) Burton, John Caupert, Lori Dillenberger, Neil Giffhorn, Gary Most, and James Yaekel Jr. The following administration were present: Superintendent Brian Charron; District Curriculum Coordinator Johnathan Schmieg; Principals: Lori Costello, Alan Guehne, Christine Osterhage, Nicholas Schwartz, Jessica Washausen, Brian Smith, and Mary Gardner; and Director of Buildings/Grounds Jack Latchem.

The following guests were present: Casie Anderson, James Moss, Jane Nold and Rachelle Wiegand.

Motion was made by Giffhorn and seconded by Most that an executive closed session be called at 5:02 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity; student disciplinary cases, and for board self-evaluation [5 ILCS120/2(c)(1)(9)(16)] Ahne, aye; Burton, aye; Giffhorn, aye; Most, aye; Yaekel Jr., aye; Dillenberger, aye; and Caupert, aye. Seven yeas. No nays. Motion passed.

Motion was made by Most and seconded by Yaekel Jr. for the Board to close the executive session at 7:22 p.m. Ahne, aye; Burton, aye; Giffhorn, aye; Most, aye; Yaekel Jr., aye; Dillenberger, aye; and Caupert, aye. Seven yeas. No nays. Motion passed.

Motion was made by Most and seconded by Ahne. to approve the minutes of the October 21, 2019 regular board meeting and the November 12, 2019 special board meeting.

Further, to approve the executive session minutes of the October 21, 2019 regular board meeting and the November 12, 2019 special board meeting.

Further, to approve Waterloo High School Early Graduation Application(s) as per Waterloo CUSD5 Section: Instruction - Policy No. 6300 for the following student: Cash Lloyd.

Further, to approve a Spanish high school trip for students to Spain, from July 6, 2021 through July 13, 2021, along with administration chaperone and at no cost to district.

Further, to re-assign Julie Whitlock to High School Office Manager, effective November 19, 2019.

Further, to employ David Kurth as a part-time (3-hour) cafeteria worker, for the 2019- 2020 school year, effective November 19, 2019, contingent upon the results of a background check and TB test.

Further, to employ Rushelle Curtis as a full-time accounting/payroll clerk, for the 2019- 2020 school year, effective December 2, 2019, contingent upon the results of a background check and TB test.

Further, to accept a letter of resignation, dated November 5, 2019, from Donna Rosenkranz, cafeteria worker, effective November 8, 2019.

Further, to accept a letter of retirement, dated October 20, 2019, from Karen Niederbrach, payroll/accounting clerk, effective October 31, 2019.

Ahne, aye; Burton, aye; Giffhorn, aye; Most, aye; Yaekel Jr., aye; Dillenberger, aye; and Caupert, aye. Seven yeas. No nays. Motion passed.

Motion was made by Yaekel Jr. and seconded by Giffhorn to accept the treasurer’s report and student activity reports. There were no investments for October Ahne, aye; Burton, aye; Giffhorn, aye; Most, aye; Yaekel Jr., aye; Dillenberger, aye; and Caupert, aye. Seven yeas. No nays. Motion passed.

Motion was made by Ahne and seconded by Burton to approve the attached list of bills for October for Waterloo Community Unit School District No. 5 and the payment of the bills for the current month (November). Further, that the District Treasurer, Julie Bradley, be given authority to pay said bills. Ahne, aye; Burton, aye; Giffhorn, aye; Most, aye; Yaekel Jr., aye; Dillenberger, aye; and Caupert, aye. Seven yeas. No nays. Motion passed.

Motion was made by Most and seconded by Burton to set the tentative tax levy for 2019 taxes payable in 2020/2021; set the date, time, and place for a truth in taxation hearing on the proposed tax levy; and to meet other requirements of the truth in taxation laws in regard to said tax levy. Ahne, aye; Burton, aye; Giffhorn, aye; Most, aye; Yaekel Jr., aye; Dillenberger, aye; and Caupert, aye. Seven yeas. No nays. Motion passed.

Motion was made by Ahne and seconded by Yaekel Jr. to approve the extra-duty assignments, effective for the 2019-2020 school year as per recommendation from the District Athletic Director, Mitch North, and Administration. Ahne, aye; Burton, aye; Giffhorn, aye; Most, aye; Yaekel Jr., aye; Dillenberger, aye; and Caupert, aye. Seven yeas. No nays. Motion passed.

Motion was made by Burton and seconded by Yaekel Jr. to uphold the disciplinarian decisions made by High School administration. Ahne, aye; Burton, aye; Giffhorn, aye; Most, aye; Yaekel Jr., aye; Dillenberger, aye; and Caupert, aye. Seven yeas. No nays. Motion passed.

Motion was made by Giffhorn and seconded by Yaekel Jr. that the meeting be adjourned at 8:00 p.m. Ahne, aye; Burton, aye; Giffhorn, aye; Most, aye; Yaekel Jr., aye; Dillenberger, aye; and Caupert, aye. Seven yeas. No nays. Motion passed.
