Waterloo Community Unit School District No. 5 Board of Education met May 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The meeting was called to order by President John Caupert. The following members were present: Kim Ahne, Jo Ellen (Jodi) Burton, John Caupert, Lori Dillenberger, Gary Most, and James Yaekel Jr. Neil Giffhorn attended via Zoom Meeting. The following administration were present: Superintendent Brian Charron; Principal Lori Costello and Brian Unger (newly appointed District Athletic Director and WHS Dean of Students as of July 1, 2020).

The public was encouraged to join via Zoom Meeting, rather than attend in person, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Motion was made by Most and seconded by Yaekel Jr. that an executive closed session be called at 6:02 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. Motion was made by Most and seconded by Yaekel Jr. to approve the minutes of the April 20, 2020 regular board meeting.

Further, to approve the executive session minutes of the April 20, 2020 regular board meeting.

Further, to authorize the Director of Cafeterias to participate in the Central Illinois School Food Service Purchasing Cooperative and to advertise accordingly for cafeteria bids including dairy, bread and bread products, effective for the 2020-2021 school year.

Motion was made by Most and seconded by Yaekel Jr. to approve the attached list of bills for April for Waterloo Community Unit School District No. 5 and the payment of the bills for the current month (May). Motion was made by Most and seconded by Yaekel Jr. to approve the extra-duty assignments, effective for the 2020-2021 school year as per recommendation from the District Athletic Director, Mitch North, and Administration. Motion was made by Ahne and seconded by Yaekel Jr. to acknowledge the Waterloo Classroom Teachers Association (WCTA) demand to bargain and to appoint the Finance Committee as the Negotiating Committee. Motion was made by Yaekel Jr. and seconded by Most to approve a two-year contract, as presented, for Brian Unger, District Athletic Director and Waterloo High School Dean of Students, effective July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2022. Motion was made by Yaekel Jr. and seconded by Burton to authorize the Superintendent to enter into a contract with Richardet Floor Covering (RFC), in the amount not to exceed $39,280.00, for removal of existing and installation of new tile at Gardner Elementary. Motion was made by Yaekel Jr. and seconded by Dillenberger to authorize the Superintendent to enter into a contract with CTS Group, in the amount not to exceed $13,185.00, for Dynamic Lighting Control and upgrades to Waterloo High School gymnasiums. Motion was made by Most and seconded by Ahne to employ Andrea Potochnik as a full- time HS science teacher, for the 2020-2021 school year, effective August 11, 2020, contingent upon the results of a background check and TB test.
