City of Du Quoin City Council met May 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The Minutes of the City Council of the City of Du Quoin, County of Perry was held via Webex in the Du Quoin City Hall.

Call to Order:

Mayor Alongi called the meeting to order at 6p.m. with the following individuals present by Webex teleconferencing: Mayor Alongi, Commissioners Jill Kirkpatrick, Bob Karnes, meeting the standards for a quorum and City staff Aaron Atkins and City Clerk Ruth Hale. Also joining by Webex teleconferencing were Jeff Ashauer and press representative Pete Spitler.

Appointments:

Motion and Vote to Accept the Resignation of Library Board Trustee Joy Whitson Upton Effective May 18, 2020

Motion: Commissioner Karnes

Second: Commissioner Ward

Ayes: All

Nays: None

Ordinances:

2020-O05-01: An Ordinance Authorizing Entering into a Contract with AEP Energy for the Purchase of Electric Power (Final Approval)

Motion: Commissioner Karnes

Second: Commissioner Kirkpatrick

Ayes: All

Nays: None

Resolutions:

2020-R05-05: A Resolution Condemning 618 East Cole Street (Final Approval)

Motion: Commissioner Karnes

Second: Commissioner Kirkpatrick

Ayes: All

Nays: None

Other Business

Commissioner Karnes will research the potential need to place a road through property owned by the city on North Leonard Street. If it is concluded that a road will not be necessary in the future, the property will be auctioned to the highest bidder.
