Waterloo Community Unit School District No. 5 Board of Education met June 15.

The meeting was called to order by President John Caupert. The following members were present: Kim Ahne, Jo Ellen (Jodi) Burton, John Caupert, Lori Dillenberger, Neil Giffhorn, Gary Most, and James Yaekel Jr. The following administration were present: Superintendent Brian Charron. The following attended via Zoom Meeting: Special Education Coordinator Julie Bender, District Curriculum Coordinator Johnathan Schmieg; Principals Lori Costello, Christy Osterhage, Nicholas Schwartz, Jessica Washausen, Brian Smith, and Mary Gardner; District Athletic Director and WHS Dean of Students Mitch North, and Brian Unger (newly appointed District Athletic Director and WHS Dean of Students as of July 1, 2020).
The public was encouraged to join via Zoom Meeting, rather than attend in person, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Motion was made by Giffhorn and seconded by Yaekel Jr. that an executive closed session be called at 6:04 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. Motion was made by Burton and seconded by Ahne to approve the minutes of the May 18, 2020 regular board meeting.
Further, to approve the executive session minutes of the May 18, 2020 regular board meeting.
Further, to adopt and continue with the district-wide Section 125 Plan Document(s) 501/502, as administered by American Fidelity Assurance Company; and further, to remain in compliance with the Internal Revenue Service regulations.
Further, to designate First National Bank and State Bank of Waterloo, Illinois; and the Illinois School District Liquid Asset Fund Plus as depositories of District Funds.
Further, to approve the renewal of membership in the Illinois Association of School Boards with respective payment, for 2020-2021 school year annual dues.
Further, to award the following bids according to the bid specifications and in the best interest of the school district: copier paper to Contract Paper Group Inc., 1013 Portage Trail Suite 2, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221 in the amount of $27,065.05; toilet tissue, roll, and multi-paper towels to Royal Papers, Inc, 2701 Hereford St, St. Louis, MO 63139 in the amount of $13,329.75; and trash services to Reliable Sanitation Service Inc., 601 S. Market, Waterloo, IL 62298 in the amount of $18,254.10, with alternate recycled bid at $4,347.00 for one time per week, totaling $22,601.10, effective for the 2020-2021 school year.
Further, to approve the district student cafeteria prices, effective for the 2020-2021 school year.
Further, to employ Jason Meyer as a full-time custodian, for the 2019-2020 school year, effective June 16, 2020, contingent upon the results of a background check and TB test.
Further, to employ Corrinne Deterding as a full-time custodian, for the 2019-2020 school year, effective June 16, 2020.
Further, to accept a letter of resignation, dated May 29, 2020, from Deron Duncan, special education teacher, effective at the end of the 2019-2020 school year.
Further, to accept an irrevocable letter of retirement, dated May 21, 2020, from Lisa Storm, in accordance with the contract Agreement Between the Board of Education of Waterloo Community Unit School District No. 5 and the Waterloo Classroom Teachers' Association (W.C.T.A.), as stated in Article IX, Section 9.10, Severance Incentive, effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
Further, to accept an irrevocable letter of retirement, dated May 26, 2020, from Leah Ziegler, in accordance with the contract Agreement Between the Board of Education of Waterloo Community Unit School District No. 5 and the Waterloo Classroom Teachers' Association (W.C.T.A.), as stated in Article IX, Section 9.10, Severance Incentive, effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.

Motion was made by Most and seconded by Burton to approve the attached list of bills for May for Waterloo Community Unit School District No. 5 and the payment of the bills for the current month (June).
