Sparta Fire District responded to 39 calls in 2018 - 7.1 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Sparta included 22 fires - seven structure fires, five vehicle fires and 10 other fires.

In all, the department saw $86,000 in fire loss - or about $3,909 per fire.

The department also received 17 false calls, including one malicious call and 16 other false calls.
