City Of Columbia, Il issued the following announcement on Nov. 21.
Santa. He's back by popular demand. Many of you remember visiting Santa at the Weilbacher department store which ceased operations in the 1970s and is now the Tammy Mitchell Hines building. Kids, young and old alike, look forward to seeing him in the same location each year. College students that left for the semester know they are "home" when they return and see their beloved Santa decoration on the light post on Main St. We all have our own reasons for loving that old guy and his significance in our small town.
So Santa is back again. He's looking a little rough, but he's back. He's in a new location a light post down, but he's back. We hear you Columbia. We know he's important to you. Oftentimes, good things come to those who wait. Santa needed a little extra love and attention this year before he could make it to the top of the pole. We're not sure how long this Santa can keep going, but just remember, Santa will be back. Always. In one shape or another, Santa will always be back.
