Waterloo Community Unit School District 5 Board of Education met Oct. 9.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

ROLL CALL

The meeting was called to order by President John Caupert. The following members were present: Kim Ahne, Jo Ellen (Jodi) Burton, John Caupert, Lori Dillenberger, Neil Giffhorn, Gary Most, and James Yaekel Jr. The following administration were present: Superintendent Brian Charron; Special Education Coordinator Julie Bender, District Curriculum Coordinator Johnathan Schmieg; Principals Lori Costello, Christine Osterhage, Nicholas Schwartz, Amber Cruser, Jessica Washausen, Brian Smith, and Mary Gardner; Athletic Director and HS Dean of Students Brian Unger; and Director of Buildings/Grounds Will Hulett.

GUESTS

The public was encouraged to join via Zoom Meeting, rather than attend in person, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Motion was made by Most and seconded by Yaekel Jr. that an executive closed session be called at 6:05 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity, and the security procedures, school building safety and security, and the use of personnel and equipment to respond to an actual, a threatened, or a reasonably potential danger to the safety of employees, students, staff, the public, or public property [5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1)(8)] Ahne, aye; Burton, aye; Most, aye; Yaekel Jr., aye; Dillenberger, aye; and Caupert, aye. Six yeas. No nays. One absent. Motion passed.

Board Member Neil Giffhorn arrived at 6:20 p.m.

CLOSE EXECUTIVE SESSION

Motion was made by Giffhorn and seconded by Ahne for the Board to close the executive session at 7:12 p.m. Ahne, aye; Burton, aye; Giffhorn, aye; Most, aye; Yaekel Jr., aye; Dillenberger, aye; and Caupert, aye. Seven yeas. No nays. Motion passed.

MINUTES

Motion was made by Most and seconded by Burton to approve the minutes of the September 21, 2020 regular board meeting.

EMPLOY: ALEX WITTENAUER

Further, to employ Alex Wittenauer as a full-time special education paraprofessional, for the 2020-2021 school year, effective October 26, 2020, contingent upon paraprofessional licensure.

EMPLOY: KIMBERLY STEWART

Further, to employ Kimberly Stewart as a full-time Title I paraprofessional, for the 2020- 2021 school year, effective October 27, 2020, contingent upon the results of a background check and TB test.

EMPLOY: VANESSA WISKAMP

Further, to employ Vanessa Wiskamp, as a full-time payroll/accounting clerk, for the 2020-2021 school year, effective November 2, 2020, contingent upon the results of a background check and TB test.

RESIGNATION: DEANNA JENSEN

Further, to accept a letter of resignation, dated September 28, 2020, from Deanna Jensen, full-time payroll/accounting clerk, effective immediately.

TREASURER’S REPORT, STUDENT ACTIVITY REPORTS, INVESTMENTS

Motion was made by Yaekel Jr. and seconded by Ahne to accept the treasurer’s report and student activity reports. There were no investments for Septmeber. Ahne, aye; Burton, aye; Giffhorn, aye; Most, aye; Yaekel Jr., aye; Dillenberger, aye; and Caupert, aye. Seven yeas. No nays. Motion passed.

BILLS

Motion was made by Giffhorn and seconded by Burton to approve the attached list of bills for September for Waterloo Community Unit School District No. 5 and the payment of the bills for the current month (October). Further, that the District Treasurer, Julie Bradley, be given authority to pay said bills. Ahne, aye; Burton, aye; Giffhorn, aye; Most, aye; Yaekel Jr., aye; Dillenberger, aye; and Caupert, aye. Seven yeas. No nays. Motion passed.

ADOPT ON THE SECOND READING OF DISTRICT BOARD POLICIES PRESS PLUS ISSUE 105-AUGUST 2020

Motion was made by Giffhorn and seconded by Yaekel Jr. to adopt on the second reading of district board policies Press Plus Issue 105, August 2020, as per the recommendation of the policy committee as follows: 2:260 Uniform Grievance Procedure; 5:10 Equal Employment Opportunity and Minority Recruitment; 5:100 Staff Development Program; 5:20 W orkplace Harassment Prohibited; 5:220 Substitute T eachers; 7:10 Equal Educational Opportunities; 7:180 Prevention of and Response to Bullying, Intimidation, and Harassment; 7:185 Teen Dating Violence Prohibited; 7:20 Harassment of Students Prohibited; 2:265 Title IX Sexual Harassment Grievance Procedure. EXTRA-DUTY LIST 2020-2021

Motion was made by Ahne and seconded by Burton to approve the extra-duty assignments, effective for the 2020-2021 school year as per recommendation from the District Athletic Director, Brian Unger, and administration, contingent upon the results of background checks and TB tests. VOLUNTEER LIST 2020-2021

Motion was made by Yaekel Jr. and seconded by Ahne to approve the volunteer list, effective for the 2020-2021 school year, as per recommendation from the District Athletic Director, Brian Unger, and administration, contingent upon the results of background checks and TB tests. FINANCIAL STATEMENTS/AFR: YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2020

Motion was made by Most and seconded by Ahne to accept the Financial Statements/Annual Financial Report – Year Ended June 30, 2020, as audited by Scheffel Boyle – Certified Public Accountants.
