City of Red Bud Public Health and Safety Committee Met Feb. 22.

Committee Chairman Hanebutt called the meeting to order at 6:37 P.M. Committee Member Nevois requested participation in the meeting remotely, due to personal health reasons. There were no objections.

New Business
I. Approval of Prior Month’s Meeting Minutes – January 18, 2021 Recommendation made by Committee Chairman Hanebutt, seconded by Committee Member Donjon, to approve the minutes from the January 18, 2021 meeting. Carried
II. Departmental Activity Report
The monthly department activity report was included in the packets. Committee Member Donjon questioned where crime rates were compared to last year. Chief Brittingham said the number were down because of COVID.
III. FOP Negotiations – Authorization to Hire Barney Mundorf Negotiations will start in March. The contract starts in May.
Recommendation made by Committee Chairman Hanebutt, seconded by Committee Member Rheinecker, to authorize approval to hire attorney Barney Mundorf for the FOP negotiations. Carried
IV. Update of Canine Program – Dog and Authorization to Purchase Vehicle Chief Brittingham reported that he has received $5,500 in random donations, $12,500 from Roeslein, Associates and another $2,000 in pledges for the canine program. An officer has been selected to work with the dog and the officer receives kennel time. The dog can be expected to work for 7-8 years. Recommendation made by Committee Chairman Hanebutt, seconded by Committee Member Donjon, to authorize approval to purchase a Dodge Durango SUV from Weir and the necessary equipment for the canine program, NTE $43,000 total, to be purchased in the next fiscal year. Carried
V. Public Comments/Anything for the Good of the City
Harbaugh thanked Brittingham for coordinating the canine program and his work in funding it. Brittingham expressed his gratitude to the community for being so giving.
