Wilson’s Funeral Home- Percy issued the following announcement on June 12.
JACOB – Wayne A. Twenhafel, 69, of Jacob, passed away at 3:00 am, Sunday, June 13, 2021, at his home.
Wayne was born in Murphysboro, Illinois, on December 28, 1951, the son of Martin G. and Lorene L. Zerbst Twenhafel. He married Cathy Wischmeyer, on October 6, 1973, at Christ Lutheran Church, Jacob. He was a lifelong farmer. Wayne was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Jacob and served on several church committees and the school board. He was the Road Commissioner for Fountain Bluff Township for 30 years. Wayne was on the board of F.S.A., Volunteer Fireman for Fountain Bluff Fire Department, Sexton of the Christ Lutheran Cemetery and he enjoyed woodworking in his shop. He was a crop watcher in the Illinois Farm Weekly.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Cathy Twenhafel of Jacob; son, Mike (Angela) Twenhafel of New Baden, IL; daughter, Christy (Jason) Gardner of Waterloo, IL; grandchildren, Blake and Brady Twenhafel and Tripp, Case and Demi Gardner; and brothers, Glenn (Mary Jo) Twenhafel of Gorham, IL, and Roger (Terri) Twenhafel of Murphysboro, IL.
Wayne was preceded in death by his Parents; sister-in-law, Sharon Twenhafel; stepmother, Katherine Twenhafel; and in-laws, Vernon and Marjorie Wischmeyer.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Christ Lutheran Church, Jacob, with Rev. Mike Kettner officiating. Burial will follow at Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Gorham. Visitation will be at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Ava, where friends may call from 5 pm until 8 pm on Wednesday, and on Thursday from 10 am until 11 am at the church. Memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
