Steeleville Community Unit School District 138 Board met April 19.

Others Present: Stephanie Mulholland, Jennifer Haertling, Tim Wildermuth and Kylie Mueller

1. Jim Mevert moved to approve the following consent agenda items as presented by Superintendent, Stephanie Mulholland. Alinda Jeffers seconded the motion.

A. Approve Board Minutes of Regular Meeting

B. Approve Itemized Bills for Current Month

C. Approve Estimated Payroll

D. Second Reading and Approve Policy Changes

A Roll Call vote was taken: Mevert – Aye; Jeffers – Aye; Ernsting – Aye; Frederking – Absent; Rice – Absent; Mitchell – Aye; Smith – Aye.

Motion Carried: 5 – Aye, 0 – Nay, 2 – Absent

Public Visitors: Tim Wildermuth spoke about damp proofing the Elementary School locker rooms. He felt the school should waterproof the locker rooms and put in a new drainage pipe since the parking lot and sidewalk will already be torn up. He thought it would cost an additional $6,000-$8,000.

2. Action Items

A. Alinda Jeffers moved to approve IHSA Membership for 2021-2022 and approve the participation fees. Jim Mevert seconded the motion.

A Roll Call vote was taken: Jeffers – Aye; Mevert – Aye; Ernsting – Aye; Frederking – Absent; Rice – Absent; Mitchell – Nay; Smith – Aye.

Motion Carried: 4 - Aye, 1 – Nay, 2 – Absent

B. Jim Mevert moved to approve an overnight FFA trip. Alinda Jeffers seconded the motion.

A Roll Call vote was taken: Mevert – Aye; Jeffers – Aye; Ernsting – Aye; Frederking – Absent; Rice – Absent; Mitchell – Aye; Smith – Aye.

Motion Carried: 5 – Aye, 0 – Nay, 2 – Absent

3. Informational Items on the Agenda

A. Budget Summary, Cash Fund Balances, Activity Fund Balances

B. Assistant Superintendent’s Report

1. Mrs. Haertling shared the following important dates:

-Seniors’ Last Day – Monday, May 17th

- Senior Exams – Tuesday, May 18th and Wednesday, May 19th

- Last Day of Regular Attendance for Grades 9-11 – Tuesday, May 18th

- Grades 9-11 Semester Exams – May 19th, 20th, 21st

-Teacher Institute Day – Monday, May 24th

2. Mrs. Haertling informed the board that she would like to have graduation inside this year. Each student will get 10 tickets to the ceremony.

3. Mrs. Haertling spoke about renewing our membership with IHSA.

4. Volleyball will end on Friday, April 23rd.

5. Baseball and Softball will begin post season play the week of June 2nd.

6. Track Sectional for girls will be the week of June 2nd and the week of June 9th for boys. 

C. There will be a Special Board Meeting on Monday, April 26th to seat the newly re-elected board members.

D. Dr. Mulholland informed the board that she has advertised for a part-time speech/language pathologist for next year. If possible we could share this person with Coulterville or Prairie du Rocher who are also in need of a speech pathologist for next year.

E. Dr. Mulholland spoke about coordinating summer school sessions for our students in greatest academic need.

F. Dr. Mulholland spoke about the multiple Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief(ESSER) funds that the school has received or is anticipating. She spoke about what the funds would be used for.

4. Alina Jeffers moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:42 p.m. Jim Mevert seconded the motion. A voice vote was taken: 5 – Aye, 0 – Nay, 2 – Absent
