Monroe County Board met Jan. 3.

The meeting of the County Commissioners of Monroe County, Illinois was called to order at 8:15am by Chairman Dennis Knobloch.
The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Chairman Dennis M. Knobloch, Vice Chairman George Green and Commissioner Vicki Koerber were present.
Others present included County Clerk Jonathan McLean, State’s Attorney Lucas Liefer, Scott Woodsmall with the Republic-Times, Sheila Wetzler, and Pat Kelly.
Chairman Dennis Knobloch asked for public comments. There were no public comments.
Commissioner Green made a motion to approve the Accounts Payable for payment. Second by Commissioner Koerber. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.
Motion by Commissioner Koerber to approve the County Payroll. Second by Commissioner Green. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.
Motion by Commissioner Koerber to approve the open and closed minutes of the December 20, 2021 Board meeting. Second by Commissioner Green. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.
Commissioner Green made a motion to approve the Oak Hill Care Center Accounts Payable. Second by Commissioner Koerber. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.
Commissioner Koerber made a motion to re-appoint Aaron Metzger the Monroe County Engineer for a term of six-years commencing on March 1, 2022. Second by Commissioner Green. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried. Resolution #22-1
Aaron Metzger spoke briefly about supply chain issues related to equipment and vehicles. The Board approved the purchase of a single axle dump truck in November 2021. However, in December, the dealer notified the Highway Department that manufacturer is adding a $2,900 surcharge due to the cost of input materials. The discussed legal options with State’s Attorney Lucas Liefer. It was ultimately decided that there is not much the County can do about these price increases and it is a reflection of supply chain issues impacting every industry right now. Commissioner Green made a motion to approve the extra $2,900 surcharge. Second by Commissioner Koerber. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.
Health Department Director John Wagner came before the Board to provide an update on COVID-19. Mr. Wagner warned the Board that the Omicron variant is spreading quickly. He expects very high infection numbers over the next two weeks.
Regional Superintendent of Schools, Kelton Davis, came before the Board to present a quarterly ROE report.
Prior to the adjournment of the meeting, Chris Voelker introduced newly hired Zoning Department employee Eric Sutton.
There being no further business to come before the Board, a motion was made by Commissioner Green to adjourn. Second by Commissioner Koerber. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.
