Illinois State Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) has a hunch several high school students that participated in her latest Youth Advisory Council could one day be leaders of their communities or the state.
Bryant celebrated the students by cheering them on in a May 18 tweet.
"This won't be the last time you see the young people from my Youth Advisory Council," Bryant wrote in the tweet. "I believe one or more of this crew will be our future elected officials."
Bryant also hosted a Youth Advisory Council session back in December at SIU Carbondale. According to Metro East Sun, those in attendance were nominated by their schools based on their expressed interest in government and public service.
House Bill 0594, which passed on November 30, 2021, created the Youth Advisory Council with the goal of facilitating communication between young people in Illinois and the different branches of state government.
According to The Illinois General Assembly website, the bill also required the Advisory Board to be made up of two members of the House of Representatives which would be appointed by the Speaker of the House and House Minority Leader, plus two senators, one of whom would be appointed by the Senate President and the other by the Senate Minority Leader.
