State Sen. Terri Bryant (R--Murphysboro0 acknowledged the 2022 Illinois Retailer of the Year, Joe Koppeis.
"2022 Illinois Retailer of the Year- Groceries of Southern Illinois, Joe Koppeis," the senator said on Facebook. " I am in Chicago today celebrating with the Illinois Retail Merchants Association as they honor our very own Joe Koppeis. I hereby proclaim October 6, 2022, as Joe Koppeis Day in the Illinois 58th Senate District."
Koppeis received the award at the Illinois Retail Merchants Association 65th annual meeting on Oct. 6. He owns and operates Groceries of Southern Illinois, which is one of more than 30 businesses he owns throughout southern Illinois, according to the association.
“Joe is a true retail entrepreneur, who started by mopping floors at a grocery store as a teenager to becoming one of the most successful merchants in southern Illinois," Rob Karr, the Association's President and CEO said in a statement. "Joe understands the importance our industry plays in people’s lives and how investment can build stronger communities, and generously supports countless community programs and nonprofits. On behalf of retailers across Illinois, we are proud to recognize Joe with this award, and thank him for his dedication and tireless work.”
In the June 28, 2022 election, Bryant ran unopposed in her efforts to serve the residents of District 58.
