State Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) took to Facebook to thank her suppoters for the opportunity to continue to represent them in the Senate.
Bryant, who was unopposed in the race for the 58th District seat, also released a statement thanking voters from the district for sending her to Springfield.
“Today we're starting the 103rd General Assembly. I think it's going to be a wild ride for the next two years,” she said in the video. “I'll be looking for your help again in two years to continue to serve you.”
Bryant on Jan. 11 was named assistant Republican leader for the state’s Senate Republican Caucus, according to her website.
“My commitment to you – as always – is to speak the truth to you, do the best I can do and with all the information that I have available to you to give you as much information as you can,” she said in the video posted on social media. “But you know I'm in the old state Capitol today just taking everything in, on this awesome responsibility that you've given me and this tremendous honor, so thank you for letting me serve you again for another two years.”
Bryant added in the statement that she was honored to join the leadership team of State Sen. John Curran (R-Downers Grove).
“I look forward to taking on the new responsibilities that come with being in leadership and I’m excited to help our caucus and state meet all of its great potential,” she said in the statement.
In welcoming the legislator to the ranks of GOP leadership in Springfield, Curran lauded Bryant in the statement.
“Senator Bryant has shown amazing promise and outstanding leadership during her short time with the Senate Republican Caucus,” Curran said in the statement. “I am certain that she will help move the Senate Republicans forward as our Caucus’ Assistant Republican Leader.”
