City of Waterloo Finance Committee met Jan. 23

City of Waterloo Finance Committee met Jan. 23.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Meeting called to order by Chairman Clyde Heller with committee members Matt Buettner, Stan Darter, Russ Row, and Jim Trantham present. Also attending are Mayor Tom Smith, Budget Officer Shawn Kennedy, Community Relations Coordinator Sarah Deutch, Public Works Director Tim Birk, Zoning Administrator Nathan Krebel and Building Inspector Brad Yearian.

Agenda Item 1: Petitions by Citizens on Non-Agenda Items. None

Agenda Item 2: Vehicles. Discussion focused on replacement of Explorer driven by Building Inspector from vehicle pool. During a Utility meeting, Brad Yearian notified us that the reverse function was failing. As a solution to this, a new vehicle purchase is proposed for Public Works Director, with the current vehicle being transferred to the vehicle pool use. Investigation yielded one Explorer available at Sunset Ford, white seat trim at cost of $48,000. Tim also learned a second Explorer was to arrive in approximately three weeks with preferred black seating at about $47,000. Discussion also questioned if a vehicle was available from Morrow Ford under state contract. This could not be verified during the meeting as the Sales Consultant for contract sales was out for several days. Motion made by Russ Row to check on availability of this vehicle from Morrow Ford, if not available, purchase the inbound Explorer from Sunset Ford with the black seats. Motion seconded by Stan Darter, unanimous approved.

Agenda Item 3: Sound System. Sarah Deutch presented information about proposed upgrade to downtown sound system utilized at downtown events throughout the year. Three areas were identified as not having coverage during events like Pumpkinfest, North Main, Mill Street and north side of Courthouse Square. Recommendation to improve requires new amplifiers and additional horn speakers at a proposed cost of $5,087.36. This system will also be located in the basement level of the bandstand. Funding to come from gaming fund. Motion by Stan Darter and second by Russ Row to purchase system, vote 5 yes.

Comments: None

Motion to adjourn made by Russ Row, second Matt Buettner, adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
