Rep. Dave Severin announced his campaign for re-election to the 116th District on Aug. 5, in a Facebook post and press release. He made seven different stops around the 117th District throughout that day to share the news.
"Today, I announced that I'm running for RE-ELECTION as your State Representative!" Severin said. "Thank you to everyone for your support and your vote in years past. I'm going to keep working hard for you every single day!"
Dave Severin was first elected to the Illinois House in 2017. A Republican, his legislative experience includes serving on the Judiciary - Criminal and Mental Health & Addiction. Severin resides in Benton.
“Politics is not for the faint of heart, but I have successfully defeated primary and general election opponents by outworking them, and because I have the right record - and some of that record is 100% pro-life voting record, 100% pro-Second Amendment voting record," Severin said. "I voted to cut taxes on food, fuel, medicine and school supplies. I stood up against Governor Pritzker’s lockdown and mask mandates. I fought to get our schools back open for in-person learning. I support our police and I’m proud to do that.
“I started out this journey with the support of my friends and family right here in Franklin County. We worked hard, overcame millions of dollars in negative ads, and secured a victory that changed the landscape for Republicans in Southern Illinois. The work is not done. It is an honor and privilege to serve as a State Representative. It’s a 365-day-a-year job that requires someone that can be relevant, solve problems, and advance the ball forward for the people of this district."
As part of his 100% pro-life voting record, Rep. Dave Severin applauded the early August court decision that temporarily halted the implementation of Senate Bill 1909, and voted against the bill when it came up for a vote in May. “The decision by the US Northern District judge to halt the implementation of this dangerous and unconstitutional law is the correct decision. As a 100% pro-life legislator, I stand with our crisis pregnancy centers and stand against the pro-abortion agenda.”
