Monroe County Board of County Commissioners met Jan. 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The meeting of the County Commissioners of Monroe County, Illinois was called to order at 8:15 a.m. by Chairman George E. Green.

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Chairman George E. Green and Commissioner Vicki Koerber were present. Commissioner Dennis M. Knobloch joined the meeting via telephone.

Others present included County Clerk Jonathan McLean, Sheila Wetzler, State’s Attorney Ryan Webb, Sheriff Neal Rohlfing, Scott Woodsmall with the Waterloo Republic-Times, Maintenance Director Joe Lewis, Treasurer Kevin Koenigstein.

Chairman Green asked for public comments. There were no public comments.

Commissioner Koerber made a motion to approve the County bills and payroll for payment. Second by Chairman Green. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.

Commissioner Koerber made a motion to approve the minutes of the December 18, 2023 open and closed Board meetings and the December 29, 2023 open meeting. Second by Chairman Green. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.

Sheriff Rohlfing presented the 2023 Annual Report for the Sheriff’s Department.

A contract change order for the jail addition project was presented by Joe Lewis and Mike Schneider. The change order reduces the contract amount by $26,498.01. Commissioner Koerber made a motion to approve a contract change order. Second by Chairman Green. All voting Aye. None Nay. Knobloch Absent. Motion carried.

Joe Lewis and Kevin Schiebe discussed buying a new generator for the Courthouse. The cost to fix the existing generator will be $16,218.85. Commissioner Koerber made a motion to pay for the repair of the generator using the county contingency expense account. Second by Chairman Green. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.

County Treasurer Kevin Koenigstein Presented the FY23 Palmier Cemetery Report. Commissioner Koerber made a motion to approve the report. Second by Commissioner Knobloch. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.

Treasurer Koenigstein said that Palmier Cemetery Board of Trustees are entertaining a possible land acquisition. It is a small tract of land on the west side of the cemetery. The land would be donated. However, a survey will be necessary and could cost a few thousand dollars.

Treasurer Koenigstein informed the Board that 97.6% of real estate taxes have been collected. There is approximately $1.6M left to collect.

State’s Attorney Ryan Webb presented a resolution to contract for the cleanup of a property located at 4375 JJ Road, Waterloo, Illinois. Commissioner Koerber made a motion to approve. Second by Commissioner Knobloch. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried. Resolution #24-1
