City of Red Bud Parks and Recreation Commission met Feb. 7.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

Members present: Jim Birke, Tim Fahey, Brad Mayberry, Wil Krick, Deb Opel, and Terri Reed

Members absent: Kyle Herriman, Ryan Koudela, and Winnie Rehmer.

Others Present: Kyle Donjon and Mayor Susan Harbaugh

The meeting was called to order by Tim Fahey at 6:30 PM at Red Bud City Hall. Minutes from the January 2024 meeting were approved as read.

OSLAD GRANT.

● Tim, Deb and Terri attended the bid opening for the Renovation of Ratz Park.Three bids were submitted. Committee discussed the bids. Susan told the committee the next step would be bringing the best bid to the City Council for their approval. Members were encouraged to attend the Committee Meetings on Monday, February 19 at 6:00. If enough members attend we could request the Red Bud Recreation and Parks could be moved so members can go to their other obligations that evening.

POOL

● Tim will get bids for a new door and will decide how to replace the window.

● The outside of the bath house needs to be painted. Tim will solicit bids for repainting. The Park Board would prefer to award the contract to Red Bud Chamber Members (Red Bud businesses) but the law requires the bid to the lowest and best bidder..

LINCOLN PARK

● Stump grinding is in progress.

● Wil asked about watering new trees in all parks. Need to order Watering Rings and a Portable Large capacity Water Storage Bladder, Tim will discuss with Josh about city workers watering the new trees.

RATZ PARK

● Dedication of Holitzer on November 11th went well.

● New Trees have been planted and have water bladders and mulch. Red Bud trees were planted near Howitzer.

● Tim will try and repaint the floors in the main men’s restroom when weather permits. Doors were not kept locked long enough.

SPORTS COMPLEX

● Need to put security cameras in budget for 2024

● No report from Kyle

MUSKETS FIELD

● no report from Ryan.

COMMUNITY GARDEN

● Need to build/install more boxes for summer 2024

BUDGET

● Susan reminded us we need to spend our money for the fiscal year 2023 (ends May 1, 2024). She encouraged each of us to visit our designated park area and decide what we can use this year. and bring to the next meeting.

OTHER BUSINESS

● City needs to continue to budget trees and maintenance each year.

● Need to work with Davey Trees to use trees native to this area

● Discussed projects that were completed/approved so far for this fiscal year; they include:

- tree trimming and removal of dead trees at both Ratz and Lincoln Parks

- added five (5) garden boxes to the Community Garden for a total of 39 - concrete work at Musket Field at Lincoln Park

- installing team benches for soccer fields at Ratz Park

– approved replacing turf in the batting cages at the Sports Complex

– approved for a lawn mower replacement

– approved of Hubbard land donation of 2.698 acres adjacent to Lincoln Park - completed painting of the inside of bath house at the swimming pool

– purchased windscreens for multipurpose courts in Lincoln Park

– purchased new trees for Ratz and Lincoln Parks

– purchased trash cans and family grill

– repaired the water/dog fountain in Lincoln Park

NEXT REGULAR MEETING March 6, 2024, 6:30 at Red Bud City Hall.

Jim made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Wil seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
