State Representative David Friess (R-Red Bud) has announced the successful passage of SB 3513, an amendment to the Illinois Notary Public Act. As the chief House sponsor of the bill, Rep. Friess advocates for the positive changes this legislation brings to licensed attorneys, judges, and their employees.

"By reducing unnecessary requirements, SB 3513 allows our legal professionals to continue their important work without unnecessary delays," said Rep. Friess. "This legislation acknowledges the expertise of attorneys and judges and respects their time and commitment to their profession."

SB 3513 introduces a more efficient process for renewing appointments as notaries public and electronic notaries public. With this amendment, applicants who are licensed attorneys, judges, or employed by a licensed attorney or the court will no longer need to complete a course of study or pass an examination for renewal. Instead, these applicants must submit a signed statement confirming their professional status and affirming that they have read and understood the current version of the Act.

"The passage of SB 3513 benefits both the legal community and the public they serve," added Rep. Friess. "I’m thankful for the support from my colleagues in both the House and the Senate. This is a significant step forward in modernizing our state’s notarial system."

SB 3513 now moves on to the Governor’s desk to be signed.
