Monroe County Board of County Commissioners met June 3.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The meeting of the County Commissioners of Monroe County, Illinois was called to order at 8:15 a.m. by Chairman George E. Green.

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Commissioners Doug Garmer and Vicki Koerber were present.

Others present included County Clerk Jonathan McLean, State’s Attorney Ryan Webb, Sheila Wetzler, and Scott Woodsmall of the Republic-Times.

Chairman Green asked for public comments. George Bieber expressed concerns about medical bills he received while incarcerated at the Monroe County Jail. He also expressed concerns about change orders for the jail construction project being on the agenda of every meeting.

Commissioner Garmer made a motion to approve the County bills and payroll for payment. Seconded by Commissioner Koerber. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.

Commissioner Koerber made a motion to approve a grant to pay for prosecutor software for the State’s Attorney’s Department. The grant is in the amount of $80,125. Second by Commissioner Garmer. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.

Commissioner Koerber made a motion to approve meeting minutes for the May 9, 2024 closed meeting. Second by Commissioner Garmer. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.

Commissioner Koerber made a motion to approve the Oak Hill Care Center Accounts Payable. Second by Commissioner Garmer. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.

Commissioner Koerber made a motion to approve a special application period of June 3, 2024 to June 7, 2024 for applications to sell fireworks. Second by Commissioner Garmer. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.

Joe Lewis went through the 5-week report for the jail construction project.

Commissioner Koerber made a motion to go into closed session for the purpose of personnel and litigation. Second by Commissioner Garmer. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried. Resolution #24-62

The meeting was closed at 8:40 a.m.

Commissioner Koerber made a motion to come out of closed session. Second by Commissioner Garmer. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried. Resolution #24-63

The meeting was opened at 11:06 a.m.

Commissioner Koerber made a motion to adjourn. Second by Commissioner Garmer. All voting Aye. None Nay. None Absent. Motion carried.

Meeting adjourned at 11:06 a.m.
