Addison School District 4 Board of Education met June 26.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Meeting of June 26, 2024, the Board of Education conducted the following business:

The Board approved the Closed & Regular Session Meetings of May 22, 2024.

The Board approved the Accounts Payable for the Month of June 2024.

The Board approved the Payroll for the Month of May 2024.

Communications/Public Participation on Agenda Items: There were no public comments.

Presentations:

School Improvement Plans – Principals shared the following:

• Each principal shared an update on their School Improvement Plans for the 24-25 school year.

• AELC has the goal of an increase of 7% in Objective 13 Uses Classification Skills and a 10% increase in 1B Follows Limits and Expectations by May 2025.

• Ardmore has the goal of a 5% increase in the overall percentage of students meeting and exceeding as measured by IAR. They also plan to have a 3% increase in the achievement percentile as measured by NWEA MAP and an increase in students’ feeling of safety at school as measured by the Ardmore Safety Survey.

• Army Trail has the goal of a 4% increase in the achievement percentile from Fall to Spring on Reading and Math MAP assessments. They also plan to have a 10% decrease in the number of students earning a minor or major discipline referral from the 23-24 SY to the 24-25 SY.

• Fullerton has the target of a 5% increase in Achievement in Reading and Math in MAP, and an increase in 5-Essentials Measure of Collective Responsibility from “Very Weak” to “Weak”.

• Lake Park has a goal of a 3% increase in students at or above grade level from Fall on the HMH Growth Measure. They also plan to have a 3% increase in the mean RIT score from Fall to Spring on Math MAPs. They would also like 50% of certified staff to provide at least 1 additional opportunity for family involvement outside of the already provided school events.

• Stone plans to have a 3% increase in the average achievement percentile from Fall to Spring on Reading MAPs. They also plan to increase 4% in the average achievement percentile as measured by Math MAPs. Stone targets a 10-15% decrease in inappropriate physical contact as measured by major discipline referrals.

• Lincoln has the goal of a 5% increase in the achievement percentile in both Math and Reading MAPs. They also plan to have a 13-point increase in collective responsibility for staff (5EQ).

• Wesley aims to have a 3% increase in the number of students who score in the average to high range in the stand of Vocabulary and Measurement and Data as measured by the Spring NWEA MAPs assessments. They also aim to decrease 25% in the number of students who score in the “need for instruction range” in goal-directed behavior as measured by the Spring DESSA mini.

• Indian Trail plans to have a 10% increase in Achievement in Reading in meeting/exceeding. They also aim to increase 5% in Achievement in Math in meeting/exceeding. Indian Trail also plans to increase 20 points overall in the Supportive Environment component in 5 Essentials – with a focus on safety and teacher-student.

E-Learning Plan – Kara Dohman and Cristina Villalobos, Principals shared the following:

• Kara Dohman and Cristina Villalobos shared an update on the E-Learning Plan.

• AELC – Instruction and schoolwork will be provided to not exceed 2.5 hours max for half-day programs. For full day programs, instruction and schoolwork will be provided not to exceed 5 hours maximum. Students will receive a packet at fall conferences that will be utilized for E-Learning days. Material will be provided for up to 3 E-Learning days at that time. Students with IEPs will receive information during their initial meeting.

• K-8th – Instruction and schoolwork will be provided not to exceed 5 hours maximum. Check-in for all students will be at 9am. Teachers will post specific synchronous check-in times (minimum of 2) and share those with students and families. Materials will be made available to students, as needed. Currently, all students have 1:1 device to support their materials if they are electronic. For families without internet access, teachers will work with the families to make arrangements for an opportunity for the work to be completed.

Committee Reports:

Intergovernmental Committee Report – Mr. Castillo reported on the following:

• Addison Trail High School and Indian Trail Junior High School had graduation celebrations for the 2024 graduates.

• Addison Trail High School is having improvements made on their turf field. They are also adding more Trades and College-Level Courses into their curriculum.

• Addison Park District plans on improving parks for the community.

• The Village of Addison’s Rock N’ Wheels event is in full gear.

• Legislators shared updates regarding grants and other upcoming initiatives.

Administrative Reports:

Superintendent’s Report – Dr. Sutton reported on the following:

• This year’s Lego Camp has had about 350 students in attendance each day. I want to recognize all the staff members involved with this learning experience.

• Allison Andrikokus is recognized as she steps down as Union Co-President. She has been fantastic to work with and will miss working with her in that capacity.

• Later on, the agenda, there will be continued discussion on our District facility usage procedures and related fees. Mrs. Morgese will provide an update and no action will be taken.

• Lake Park Elementary School became eligible to offer a food pantry in partnership with the Illinois Extension Program.

• We have continued discussions with AYS leaders on collaborating with each other and exploring possibilities in which AYS could use more of our facilities and fields for their sports and activities.

• On Tuesday, June 11th, we hosted a statewide professional development conference aimed at targeting the impact AT is having on public education. This conference was developed in collaboration with the DuPage County ROE and the Learning Technology Center of Illinois. Thank you to all the ASD4 staff who were involved ion hosting this event. It was a success and we believe it will now be an annual event that we aim to have ongoing.

• I want to recognize Mrs. Carolyn Stelter. She has served as the district administrative assistant to the Superintendent for 6 years and has done an exemplary job. She has taken a new position at another nearby District, in her hometown, and this will be her last official evening with us in this capacity. She will be tremendously missed, and her positive impact that she has made on the community will be felt forever. Please help me wish her all the best in this next step of her career.

• Board Members shared their sentiments about Carolyn.

• FOIAs – We had 2 FOIAs and Dr. Lohse has responded.

Assistant Superintendent for Business – Mrs. Morgese reported on the following:

• The first week of June we welcomed back the auditors to begin the preliminary audit. They will be back one week in July and then another week in September. We are hoping the audit will be done by the end of November this year.

• The facilities team is off to a great start this summer. Buildings that are not undergoing construction are being cleaned. District Office is being renovated with a new office, new carpeting, and a new conference room. We appreciate the Board’s support with the renovation of these spaces.

Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning – Dr. Purse reported on the following:

• We want to recognize principals and our leadership team who made time on Monday, June 24th, to look over their data. It was great to hear the conversations that were happening.

• In addition, we have had a great number of teachers come in to do professional learning or do curriculum work. So, as we talked about standardizing what we teach, we had departments from IT and different curriculum committees, to make sure we are on the same page with what we are teaching.

• We have 50 staff members who are participating in our annual PD In the Sun Book Study.

• For Summer Enrichment we have had Lego Camp for our students, but we also want to acknowledge our three schools who are on the school improvement status who have had activities for students. Indian Trail had Passport to IT which was an activity for our 5th graders moving on to 6th grade. It gave them an opportunity to get to know the building. Lincoln had a Superhero Academy which was filled with joy, reading, yoga, math, and science. Ardmore is having an open summer library with different activities.

• We are revising instructional frameworks for Literacy and Math this summer with our curriculum coordinators. The goal is to put those out this Fall.

Action Items:

• The Board approved the Personnel Report, as presented.

• The Board approved the Parental Leave Request, as presented.

• The Board approved the Separation Agreement with Christine Hubeck and Memorandum of Agreement with the Addison Teachers’ Association, as presented.

• The Board approved the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) Dues for 2024-2025, as presented.

• The Board approved the Legislative Education Network of DuPage County (LEND) Dues for 2024-2025, as presented.

• The Board approved the Partnership Agreement Between Metropolitan Family Services and ASD4, as presented.

• The Board approved the Updated Policy 5:330-Vacation, as presented.

Discussion Items:

• The next Regular Board of Education Meeting is on Wednesday, July 17th, 2024, at Indian Trail Junior High School in the Board Room at 5:00 p.m.
