Communications/Public Participation on Agenda Items: None

Presentations:

• Each Principal reviewed their School Improvement Goals and what progress they attained in each area. The primary challenges that we are seeing for why some areas may have not been met are curriculum alignment and ensuring students are feeling safe outside of the classroom.

• Kara Dohman and Cristina Villalobos shared an update on the E-Learning Plan. This plan allows for schools to have one e-learning day in any situation where the school cannot be open to students. It is not mandatory to use this e-learning day throughout the year, but it is a cautionary plan to alleviate students and teachers from making up curriculum work.

Committee Reports:

Intergovernmental Committee Meeting Report of June 12, 2024

• Mr. Castillo shared that the committee met and shared graduation celebrations that were put in place for the 2024 graduates of Indian Trail Junior High and Addison Trail High School. He also talked about the Addison Trail turf field getting upgraded. Trades and college-level courses are being added to the curriculum. Addison Park District discussed improvements to the parks in the community. The Village of Addison is in full gear for their Rock N’ Wheels event. The Village also provided information about grants and a new mental health building that will be available for the community. Addison Police and Fire Department shared that they have open positions and are looking for applicants.

Administrative Reports:

Superintendent’s Report – Dr. Sutton reported on the following:

• This year’s Lego Camp has had about 350 students in attendance each day. I want to recognize all of the staff members involved with this awesome learning experience, and to take a moment to spotlight how great of an opportunity this is for the children of our community.

• I recently learned that teacher Allison Andrikokus has decided to step down as Union Co-President. I wanted to take the time to briefly recognize her and tell her thank you. She has been fantastic to work with, and I will miss working with her in that capacity.

• Later on the agenda this evening, we are going to have continued discussion on our District facility usage procedures and related fees. While we want to ideally have this in place for the upcoming school year, we want to be deliberate during this process. Mrs. Morgese will provide an update on this later tonight, and no action will be taken.

• Lake Park Elementary School became eligible to offer a food pantry in partnership with the Illinois Extension Program. We are thrilled to be adding this resource for our families and community. More information to come as we believe this will be ready to serve for the upcoming school year.

• Members of my team and I met with leaders for AYS again on Friday, June 14. We continued our discussions on collaborating with each other, and exploring possibilities in which AYS could use more of our facilities and fields for their sports and activities. It was positive dialogue and more information will be forthcoming.

• On Tuesday, June 11 we hosted a statewide professional development conference aimed at targeting the impact AI is having on public education. This conference was developed in collaboration with the DuPage County ROE and the Learning Technology Center of Illinois. I want to thank all of the Addison #4 staff that were involved in hosting this event. It was a success, and I believe this will now be a new annual event that we aim to have be ongoing.

• I want to recognize Mrs. Carolyn Stelter. She has served as the District administrative assistant to the Superintendent for 6 years, and has done an exemplary job. She has taken a new position at another nearby District, in her hometown, and this will be her last official evening with us in this capacity. She will be tremendously missed, and her positive impact that she has made on the community will be felt forever. Please help me wish her all the best in this next step of her career.

• Freedom of Information Act Requests (FOIAs): We had 2 FOIAs and Dr. Lohse has responded. Former nurses used for vision and screenings requesting information on the replacement company. Lauren Fitzpatrick, a reporter from the Chicago Sun-Times requested information on an employee’s work history.

Assistant Superintendent for Business – Mrs. Morgese reported on the following:

• Last week we welcomed back WIPFLI as they began the preliminary portion of our annual financial audit. The team will return one week in July and one week in September to complete final field work, which will allow them to compile our Annual Financial Report by November.

• The Facilities team is off to a strong start this summer as they perform general maintenance and tidying up of our buildings while they are empty. We are again renovating the District Office with a new conference room, new carpeting, and new offices. We appreciate the Board’s support of these renovations. We look forward to sharing much more at the July meeting!

Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning – Dr. Purse reported on the following:

• We want to recognize principals and our leadership team who made time on Monday, June 24th, to look over their data. It was great to hear the conversations that were happening.

• In addition, we have had a great number of teachers come in to do professional learning or do curriculum work. So, as we talked about standardizing what we teach, we had departments from IT and different curriculum committees, to make sure we are on the same page with what we are teaching.

• We have 50 staff members who are participating in our annual PD In the Sun Book Study.

• For Summer Enrichment we have had Lego Camp for our students, but we also want to acknowledge our three schools who are on the school improvement status who have had activities for students. Indian Trail had Passport to IT which was an activity for our 5th graders moving on to 6th grade. It gave them an opportunity to get to know the building. Lincoln had a Superhero Academy which was filled with joy, reading, yoga, math, and science. Ardmore is having an open summer library with different activities.

• We are revising instructional frameworks for Literacy and Math this summer with our curriculum coordinators. The goal is to put those out this Fall.
