City of Red Bud Parks and Recreation Commission met Sept. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

Members present: Jim Birke, Tim Fahey, Kyle Herriman, Ryan Koudela, Wil Krick, Brad Mayberry, Deb Opel, Terri Reed, and Winnie Rehmer

Members absent: none

Others Present: Kyle Donjon and Zach Easton (Swim Team)

The meeting was called to order by Tim Fahey at 6:00 PM at Ratz Pavilion in Ratz Park. The minutes of the August minutes were approved as read.

DOG PARK

• Information was shared with the committee about the proposal from Ultra Site at the Council's recent planning committee meetings.

• Ultra Site is donating $34,620 and will raise $6500+ to build phase 1 of Dog Park located in Lincoln Park behind the new Dollar General. The park will include both a large and small dog area, each measuring 100’X150' with safety entrances. Each area will have room for growth and future development.

• Council gave approval of the plan. Ultra Site will begin planning fundraisers.

SPLASH PAD

• Project is on time

• Landscaping has been planted and watering scheduled.

• Sidewalk needs to be completed, fences need to be installed and concrete poured in one area.

• P&R Committee would like the dying Red Bud tree near the entrance walk to be taken out.

• Tim received a bid of $12,000 each for shade features for Splash Pad from Traube Tents and Structures.

POOL

• Josh is trying to find the problem with the sand in the pool. He said the vacuum is fixed and the workers were not using it daily.

• Cleaning and Maintenance has to be addressed with the YMCA. Staff/management is not cooperative.

• Darrell Salger Painting and Staining is still on hold for painting the Pool House. Tim will call Josh to find the reason for the delay.

• no final bill for summer season 2024 has been received.

• Zach Easton, representing the Swim Team, talked about a storage shed for the Team's equipment. Originally the estimate was between $4,000-$5,000. Discussed possible placement.

• Committee explained that it didn’t follow through with a request earlier in the year because no one from the Swim Team came to P&R Committee meeting with a solid proposal.

• Kyle Donjon suggested Zach come to the next committee meeting and present plans. P&R Committee would take it to the City Council for approval. Suggesting matching funds of the cost would help with receiving approval.

LINCOLN PARK

• Pads have not been poured around the flagpole for new benches.

• Suggestion that the bathrooms at Lincoln Park need to be updated. Tim or Kyle will check on the conditions of bathrooms and assess what needs to be done.

• One Soccer goal is missing. Will investigate.

• Lights at multipurpose field do not go off. Problem is being worked on.

MUSKETS FIELD

• Ryan reported that the Musket season starts this weekend.

• The port-a-potties have been delivered for the season. Costly for the Muskets Kyle D. suggested that the Muskets give him an invoice of the cost of port-a-potties and we will attempt to help pay for them.

RATZ PARK

• Plaque in bathrooms thanking Complete Concrete and Design for donating the new floor.

• Paths need new mulch in Bums Jungle.

• Beam on the far side of Bums Jungle starting to fall into the creek. Needs taken out and replaced.

• Winnie has not received bids from total Eclipse for new signs at the entrance of Ratz Park. Will contact them again.

• The City Council hired a company to remove brush along the creek bed, Bums Jungle, and drive. Will come back and spray to keep weeds and growth under control and also add riprap to control erosion.

• Wil questioned who is filling water bladders on newly planted trees at Ratz Park. They are empty. New trees need to be watered.

• Kyle received an email from Josh that Davey Trees with an estimate for removing 8 full size trees, stump removal and stump grinding. Davey Tree has the city removing 5 of the 8 trees and Davey Tree service grinding all 8 stumps to below grade level. Bid includes hauling away all of the debris. Davey Tree cost would be $7998.75 which includes a 10% discount if completed in winter. Wil Krick made a motion to accept the bid from Davey Tree service. Deb Opel seconded. Motion carried unanimously

• Cameras are going to be installed at the Splash Pad and Climbing Rock.

• The Climbing Rocks project is completed and open for use.

SPORTS COMPLEX

• Kyle Herriman reported that the new toilets are in the bathrooms but some have not been bolted down. The previous rings are in the cement and can’t be removed.

• Dividers have been ordered.

• Piping is rusting away and will need to be replaced.

• Mulch has been approved for playground equipment areas. St. Louis Compost received the bid. Rubber mulch will be removed and stored for other uses.

• Two cameras have been installed and are working.

COMMUNITY GARDEN

• Nothing to report.

RED BUD CHAMBER

• Brad reported the Chamber is using City Hall Park for Brew-B-Que Fest on September 21st. Will have a portable stage.

• Movie Night and Truck or Treat with SWIC participating on October 21st.

OTHER BUSINESS

• Will plan a clean up park day in October.
