FOIA Request to City of Sparta Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024.
In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SW Illinois News have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the City of Sparta.
The request seeks access to a list of all parking violations currently unpaid within the city's jurisdiction. The information requested includes the name of the offender, their address, the amount due for each violation, the date of each violation, and the total amount due.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we believe access to such records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We have also requested a fee waiver as part of this process given our role in disseminating important information to the public.
We await a response from the City of Sparta and will continue our efforts in reporting on local government affairs with accuracy and integrity.
