On October 7, 2024, we at SW Illinois News sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Randolph County. As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we requested records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
Specifically, we asked for a list of FOIA logs that were sent to the county from January 1, 2024 till October 7, 2024. The requested fields include the requester's name and organization, request content, request date, request complete date, and FOIA status.
As members of the media committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.
In other news related to Illinois state affairs, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced in July 2023 an extensive multi-year program called Rebuild Illinois aimed at improving and repairing all modes of transportation. Governor JB Pritzker stated that over $40 billion would be invested over six years into bettering roads and bridges as well as modernizing transit and aviation.
According to official sources, ten major projects are currently being planned or implemented in Chicago under this program with an investment total of $396 million. These projects aim at improving safety and mobility on Illinois's roads and bridges. Three out of these ten projects are scheduled for completion in 2024 while the remaining seven are projected for completion between 2025 through 2030.
The Rebuild Illinois program also plans significant investments in Kane County and central Cook County with $107 million allocated for seven projects in Kane County and $220 million for ten projects in central Cook County specifically for road and bridge construction.
