FOIA Request to Waterloo City Council Regarding Detailed Information on Council Members on October 15, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at SW Illinois News have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Waterloo City Council. The request, sent on October 15, 2024, seeks specific information about the council members.

In line with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, we have requested this information in an electronic format for ease of access and dissemination. The details we are seeking include the names and titles of all council members. We are also interested in knowing when each member was appointed and their term length (whether it is two or four years). Furthermore, we want to know when each member's term will expire.

As a media organization, our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We look forward to receiving this information from the Waterloo City Council as it will help us provide more detailed and accurate news coverage for our readers in Southwest Illinois.
