City of Chester City Council met Oct. 21.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

I. CALL TO ORDER

The City Council of Chester, Illinois, met in regular session on Monday, October 21, 2024, in the Municipal Building, 1330 Swanwick Street. Mayor Page called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

II. ROLL CALL

Present: Alderman Randy Dudenbostel 

Alderman Bob Buckham

Alderman Tim Lochhead 

Alderman Alex Moore

Alderman Don Berry 

Alderman James Maes

Absent: Alderman Robert Platt 

Alderman Danny Valleroy

III. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

IV. READING OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING

Alderman Maes moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting and to approve them as prepared by the city clerk. Alderman Dudenbostel seconded the motion. UPON ROLL CALL: Ayes: Aldermen Buckham, Moore, Berry, Dudenbostel, Maes, Lochhead. Nays: None. Absent: Aldermen Valleroy, Platt. Motion carried.

VI. REPORTS

Mayor:

Mayor Page expressed his sincerely appreciation to the city employees and the Park and Recreation Board for all of their help at the 2024 Fall Festival.

VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS

Cemetery & Finance Committee (Chairman Platt):

The Cemetery and Finance Committee met this evening at 5:30 p.m. to review city bills, and found them to be in order for payment. Chairman Dudenbostel moved to approve payment of bills, subject to audit. Alderman Berry seconded the motion. UPON ROLL CALL: Ayes: Aldermen Berry, Moore, Lochhead, Buckham, Dudenbostel, Maes. Nays: None. Absent: Aldermen Platt, Valleroy. Motion carried.

Alderman Dudenbostel moved to approve Invoice #21955 payable to J. T. Blankinship, Inc. for the Water Main Relocation – Riverview Project for $23,583.50. Alderman Berry seconded the motion. UPON ROLL CALL: Ayes: Aldermen Berry, Moore, Lochhead, Buckham, Dudenbostel, Maes. Nays: None. Absent: Aldermen Platt, Valleroy. Motion carried.

Park and Recreation Committee (Chairman Moore):

Chairman Moore thanked all of the volunteers and employees for their help at the fall festival.

Streets & Alleys Committee (Chairman Berry):

Chairman Berry advised that he has been approached about repainting a few crosswalks; however, the city has no control over the crosswalks on the state highways. Alderman Berry will discuss repainting the crosswalks on the city street with the street department.

Sewer Department – pumps:

Alderman Maes moved to waive formal competitive bidding and approve the purchase of a Vaughan RAS pump from Municipal Equipment Company for $24,343.00. Alderman Dudenbostel seconded the motion. UPON ROLL CALL: Ayes: Aldermen Berry, Moore, Lochhead, Buckham, Dudenbostel, Maes. Nays: None. Absent: Aldermen Platt, Valleroy. Motion carried.

Employee—Sewer Department:

Alderman Maes moved to approve Ryan Springston as a new sewer plant laborer. Alderman Dudenbostel seconded the motion. UPON ROLL CALL: Ayes: Aldermen Berry, Moore, Lochhead, Buckham, Dudenbostel, Maes. Nays: None. Absent: Aldermen Platt, Valleroy. Motion carried.

XII. ADJOURNMENT

At 6:08 p.m., Alderman Maes moved to adjourn the meeting. Alderman Berry seconded the motion. VOTE: Ayes: Aldermen Dudenbostel, Maes, Moore, Berry, Buckham, Lochhead. Nays: None. Absent: Aldermen Valleroy, Platt. Motion carried.
